Default Interesting observation on E96 card

Posted By: Vintagecatcher

I just noticed that on George Gibson's E96 card that it looks like he is wearing a black "armband" on his left arm. Thought I would pose the question to the board...To whom are the Pirates mourning by wearing the black armband? Was it for a player, coach, or baseball executive?

Maybe he wore it because the Pirates won the World Series in 1909

Default Interesting observation on E96 card

i noticed the other 2 pirates in the e96 set might be wearing armbands too. Since the set was issued circa 1910,the armbands might be for Alan Storke who was utility infielder for the pirates from 1906-1909 and who died in march of 1910,although he was traded before the 1909 season ended....other guess is maybe for national league president harry pulliam who commited suicide during the middle of the 1909 season
....and although winning a world series is sad,i doubt it constitutes wearing black armbands.Maybe they were sad they got a new ballpark(forbes field) in 1909,or sad they were leaving the old one

...let's have a definitive answer! If someone else answers this question before you, your punishment will be no looking at your 1980's Pirates cards for three days.
