Default Show off your beat up cards you can't see yourself parting with!

I enjoy near flawless cards as much as all the others out there. But, I also find something right in a card that has see it's fair share of wear!

I would love to start the thread out with an image but my computer was stolen. That inhibits my ability to scan. So someone get us started!

Cheers,

Brad

well, heck, for the right price any material object I own is for sale, but with that whore-ish admission in the background, I really do not see myself parting with any of these beaters:

Default poor?

They don't get much more poor than this. Straight from a barn fire and being tacked on a barn wall (so the story goes), to Scott Gaynor on ebay, to me.....

Default ugly but great

It's one of only three triple overprint Mikan rookies known to exist. It's one of the holy grails of basketball card holy grails.

It's sheet cut, it's ghostly, with a grey background (supposed to be blue), missing red ink and it frankly looks a mess.

By many, many multiples, this has to be the cheapest card on this thread. I have an upgraded version (thanks Mr Wakefield and Kawika), but I'd still not part with this one either.....

Default My beater keeper

If I ended up panhandling on the street corner with just one card in my shirt pocket (placed carefully inside a Card Saver 1 sleeve which was then put into an upside down Card Saver 2 sleeve to protect against inclement weather and body odor), it would be this Matty. It was one of a group of 5 1910 era HOF'ers I purchased (my first vintage cards) for $11.00 total back in 1981 at the first card show I ever attended, from the first table I visited just inside the entrance.

The other four are great cards too (I still have them all), but this one has always caught my eye and helped formulate my future collecting mantra...a beater can be just as desirable as a higher grade card, and quite often has more interesting eye appeal. I have collected plenty of other fantastic beaters since then...but this one would outlast them all.

Not a high profile card but really tough and given my collecting niche I'm happy to have it in any condition let alone one that presents well.

Like Tim's Dahlen, this is not a high profile card but I am very happy to have this in any condition.

I have probably been the underbidder on 10-12 Hageman's the past 5 years and rumor has it someone with the same last name hoards them. Not sure if they are related. So somehow I snuck this one in and an ANON back to boot so I will probably have it forever in this fair shape.

And by the way, there is a player in the T207 set with the same last name as me (Steele) and you don't see me hoarding them

Default Lefty Grove...

I wanted to post a few cards in this thread, but just recently had time to scan the cards. I have no interest in parting with the following four Grove cards. These are 4 of the first Lefty Grove cards that I ever bought. I purchased the cards as a teenager in the late 1980's. The Diamond Star was the first one and is the most special. I hope I never forget the feeling that I had when it first showed up in the mail about 23 years ago.

Default My Favorite T206

Hi everyone, this is my first attempt to post here with a photo. Nerves of steel I do not have.
Only have a few T206's but this is my favorite. Going to one of my grand kids I guess..... Love this site and all the knowledgable collectors onboard. Jim
