The good ones: REA, Hunt's, Mastro, Leland's, Heritage and probably a few others I can't think of right now.

Avoid: Coach's Corner, Grey Flannel

Uh....yes. I knew I was forgetting some good ones. Add Huggins & Scott to the good guys list.

Add American Memorabilia to the bad guys list.

SCP has more than a few detractors as well.

Sometimes it depends on the type of material you have. While one auction house is better for game used equipment, another might be better for photos & autographs.

Since I was the original poster of those two rather negative threads that Rob linked, I wanted to chime in as well. Outside of Grey Flannel and AMI, all of the others mentioned above are terrific. You can't go wrong with any of them...

Grey Flannel has a repeated history of deceiving descriptions and suspect authentications. AMI has serious "communication issues", and takes the longest of any auction house to pay consignors (bar none!) But I have consigned to Hunts, Lelands, Mastro, REA, SCP and Heritage... receiving only fabulous service and results.

Just wanted to clarify that those negative threads about Grey Flannel and AMI were warranted. As the person who posted those two "downers", I've had only positive experiences with the other major Auction Houses in this great hobby.
