MattyC- that Seaver is amazing for a 5.

Picked up this Mantle in an eBay side deal. Great looking card and clean sig. I'm absolutely re-addicted to signed cards (first binge was while getting them signed as a kid... still have all those)

Also snagged this Oh as BIN, couldn't resist adding it to my small, but growing Oh collection

I continue to pick up variations, however, one tough variation from the 60s has eluded me for years, unitl now. I finally came across a sharp looking 68 Mike McCormick WL embedded(but pictured) in a lot I ended up bidding on and winning. The lot was a 200 +/- card lot that I bid (knowing this card was included) on Sunday right after the great ebay outage of Sept '14 ended, so I wonder if the outage caused other prospective bidders to miss seeing this card as part of the offered lot?

Just picked up this Mick from Ebay! Could not believe this one was available for a reasonable price. Listed as BIN or Best Offer. I had no problem clicking on the BIN. I did not want someone else to grab this why I was waiting on a Best Offer response.

I knew you would have snatched that one up in a heartbeat! I just happened to do search of newly listed Mantles and it was one of the first to show up. I got lucky on that one.

I just bout that card in a lower grade. I would have jumped on that. Love the 59 design and the centering and color on that card are bananas.

Well done!

.....I have a soft spot for Old Brooklyn Dodgers hurlers....and the side-to-side centering on that Mantle is astounding for a '61 Topps..

This Jay Publishing photo was freed from a sealed pack yesterday. I'm guessing it's from '62. Is that right?

That is MY FAVORITE Jackie card, hands down. The one card I have to represent him as well. Such a gorgeous and slept-on card in the hobby.

Thanks Everyone! I just really liked the look of this card. I think it very well may be his best looking card from any year and it's still a fairly early card of him. It's just a great image, and also much more affordable than his "rookie" era 47-49 issues.

Nice pick up also BTW Matt.

Default A few I sent in to PSA

Bought these raw and got them back from PSA last week....Slightly disappointed with the Ashburn and Marichal grades, thrilled with the Yogi grade..didn't think that was going to crack 3....if nothing else, I did get a gorgeous '61 Juan and '49 Richie for my rookie collection...maybe re-grade candidates someday...guess that soft lower-left corner on the Juan cost me a grade (though the scan makes it look far worse than it actually does in person). Anyway...I love the cards, and that's all that matters..thrilled to have them in my collection!

Nice looking cards Carl. Definitely looks like the one corner is dragging down your grade. He is a favorite of mine though so if it were mine it would be a 10 in my heart!

I don't think Clemente has an unattractive card in the hobby, and your '58 is a classic, Jon.

Here's a few that arrived in the past few weeks...

Great looking Campanella. The first time I have seen a Wilson Frank Campy. That 71 Clemente is hard to beat! Congrats on some nice pickups.

Forgot to mention the Fidrych! That is a high-end 9++ for sure. That card brings back memories of seeing all my friends imitating him when we would play pickup games back in the seventies.

Super strong month by the crew here.

CW, you always impress with your eye. The Fidrych looks like a 10. The 71 Clemente looks like an 8.5. And the Campy Franks is not a card in every collection. Major props.

I am hoarding centered 53B Micks...actually all centered Micks, but especially this one...

MattyC I must have beat you to this one. I was very happy to find this one available. Your PSA 2.5 has got to be higher than that! Is something on the back bringing the grade way down? That 2.5 beats most graded cards of the 53 Bowman Mick. Recently sold a raw 53 Bowman Mantle that was just not very appealing to the eye and figured I would wait to find a suitable replacement. Just found this one on Ebay a couple of days ago.

Here's the crazy deal with that 2.5-- the reverse has literally two letters among the bio text that are faded. That's it. That knocked it all the way down. A strong resub or crack-resub candidate for sure. The front beats every 8 I have handled.

I liked that 3 very much and came very close to pulling the trigger, actually

One thing I have noticed with The Mick's cards is that so few of the existing pop are beautifully centered. On some issues it is on the order of 1/100 or worse it seems. I think that rarity is very cool and can be something collectors seek over time.

Al- i iddidnt even know this. What is/are the 2 differences? I am currently trying to find info. Something tells me it has to do with the thingy on the arm.
I have read about a Candian version and also about how some backs are flip up-side-down

In Al's picture the shorter printed card is on the left. Yes it is the white stripe near his elbow.

Most reprints use the picture on the right but the 2003 Topps Heritage Certified Autograph Issue uses the card on the left.

Default Just arrived...

Just completed my standard Mick run- Bowman and Topps 1951-1969 (excluding all Topps' specialty ones- AS, MVP, etc.). I may venture out into the dog food trading card world eventually (so many examples available!), but for now mission (spanning 1994-2014) is complete.

1954 Bowman Mickey Mantle.jpg

I also personally concur to the previously mentioned scarcity of well centered Micks, as only 1 of 26 (including a couple dupes and a couple AS/MVP examples) is 50/50 centered- 1967 Topps. I think this probably applies to most other cards/players from these years too.

I'm personally not bugged by OC cards, especially when looks good to me otherwise, but it does seem pricing for centered examples is skyrocketing. Makes me wish I'd gotten lucky on at least one or two more of the prior 26, not as much for personal taste, but so I could sell it for big bucks and buy a clean OC example and then some

BTW- love the Bird!

Congrats on finishing the Mick run. That 54 is sweet looking. A little OC has never bothered me. Especially with vintage.

Thanks guys. As a kid Mantles were always the centerpiece(s) in local shops' displays and I spent many days dreaming of getting my hands on one, any one! I lucked into my first 3, trading/buying them for peanuts from friends who weren't too attached to Dad's hand me downs. I never would've considered a run when I started, but it definitely aided the cause when eBay came along and most of those $250 card shop "near mint" '68 Micks became $70 "EX+" Micks.

Matt- your collection is amazing. It would be fun to see our runs side by side.. two completely different styles, though I presume equally loved at home.

Dustin- I'm in the same boat with regards to centering.. with an added plus being- OC's aren't nearly as rough on the wallet. BTW, love the avatar. Somewhere buried away, I have a Cubs spring training program from Hohocam Stadium with a rookie Ty Griffin's auto... and probably have 3 binder pages of that Olympic card too.

Steve,

Thanks for the response. I see you are a fan of Furillo. I am in the process of obtaining every main issue(Topps, Bowman) card produced of this great, underappreciated and misunderstood player. Only have a few to go. I got this 54 Bowman off eBay for what I considered to be a very good price considering the card's condition and centering. I will try to add a few of the other Furillo's that I have obtained in the last year.

Thanks again.

Duane

Jon, that Clemente is probably my all-time favorite vintage baseball card. It's neck and neck with a select few other cards, and my favorite from that group changes every couple of months. The next Clemente card I buy will be this one.

Default Jackie

I like the centering on your Jackie. Picked this up, one of the best "6"s I've ever seen:

This 4 just came to join his brothers-- but it looks like my brother will be getting the beautiful SGC 4.5; at least it stays in the family...

I actually want that 2.5 but I'll take the 4.5 if I must. Damn you and your centered Mantles. How am I ever going to get my 52 Topps if I keep buying your hand me downs? Hell, it's way better than the hand me down Osh Kosh overalls I'd get from you as a kid...

I agree on the 57 Hodges looking better than a 6. That is a very nice looking card for a 6. Great pickup.
