Upgrade for a 1964 Topps Set. Had trouble deciding between one perfectly centered but with faded color, or this one with vibrant color with pretty good centering. Decided on the popping color.

Default Favorite February pickups (so far)

This is my first post in the "Look What I Got" thread. Hope I'm doing it right!
A cheap yellow-letter Kaline in OBC condition, plus a pair of slabbed '61's (don't worry, OBC brethren, they won't stay encased for long; I'm going to free them) to get my '61 list down to the final 13 cards.

Russ that is a very nice looking PSA 7 Gibson I think you made a good decision on that one.

Every time someone posts an Eckersley rookie I keep saying I have to add one. Congrats Rob on the addition.

I just picked this nicely centered Mantle to replace a PSA 7 I sold.

That 76 is a true 10. Great pickup for your Ryans, Begsu!

Always liked that card since I was a kid. I remember trying to save up for one at a place called Wonderland on 11th avenue in Brooklyn-- but by the time I had the money it was gone.

Default thanks guys!

love the berra. I know it's a tad off on centering, but that 49 bowman is just a tough card all around. on the ryan, it's my 2nd 10 for the 76 series.

have a few more pick ups that i'm anxiously waiting for the mailman to deliver...well the fedex guy, actually! ; )

Great Yogi ! You can't expect to find centering much better than that for a card from the 40's.

I assume you got the Ryan off the PWCC auction over the weekend. He was auctioning off late 70's sets from a guy who had the entire sets in PSA 10s and PSA 9s. Man, they were gorgeous to gawk at. That set is one of the toughest to find centered from the 70's.

I had fun looking at them but only won 1 auction. I was a Claudell Washington fan when he played for the Braves so I picked this up for the heck of it:

Picked up this raw '75 Rollie Fingers for a set upgrade. Plan on sending it to SGC and think it has a great shot at an 8 or 8.5.

Default hammerin...

no, this one wasn't the most recent 76 ryan 10. I was pleased to see that one go well over the $5K mark w/o zero help from me. glad I was on the golf course and had a few too many beers to participate in that auction! this was the one that was prior to the one that ended this weekend.

gorgeous washington, btw! alotta folks love the 75 set, but when I think of 70's topps, I like the 72's and the 76's!!

Thanks begsu1013. Not sure other than I can see some light browning on the top center border between Bob and Gibson. Hard to see but that is the one thing that stands out. Also the bottom right corner is probably has a little more damaged than the picture shows.

I know there are more out there, but it is seriously crazy to me that there would even be one 1959 Mantle out there that's still this nice after almost 60 years! I am always stunned to see cards this gorgeous, and I am baffled to even concoct a story of the card's history other than some collector pulling this from a pack and immediately putting it away somewhere safe. Of course, were it me, I would have carried the card around in my pocket everywhere I went!

Thanks guys I really appreciate it! This 59 really caught my eye with the red background and black SGC frame. Just makes the card pop. Still aways to go on my Mantle run, but I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Jason I agree, I remember my grandpa telling me stories about how when he was a kid. Putting the cards in bike spokes, flinging them at walls, and other games. Then the dreaded story of when he went to college and his mom throwing all of them away. Makes you wonder how these higher grade examples were treated from being pulled out the pack, to how they are now preserved in their respective holders.

Default fedex man came

here's some more cardboard porn as someone hysterically wrote!

posted the aaron 6 from huggins and scott, but here's another 7 that was recently picked up for comparison and the mathews that has arrived. pretty decent centering for a 52t. also threw in one of the dumb things I like to collect. it's a panini macgyver card from 84. i tend to like the more sophomoric movies like macgruber, caddyshack and things of that nature, so just threw in for a couple of laughs!

"look at all these wires in this bomb. i'm more of a 3 wire kinda guy"

Yep that Aaron in the SGC is cardboard porn. I'm wondering why it isn't a higher grade.

Just landed the #1 to complete the bookend Teds from the 54 Set. Had been waiting for a centered #1 forever-- talk about a toughy to find decently centered. There's always a ton on eBay and they are all pretty bad.

Gorgeous cards MattyC. Great Winfield rookie and great 54 Topps Ted Williams cards.

Chris, I love that rookie card of Banks. That card is very hard to find centered..........especially the top portion of the card which is normally cut too low.

agreed on the banks! very nice. I've been looking for a banks rookie as well and with the same "top border" attribute with a little room above his name.

started looking a few months before he passed, trying to hold off and find "the right one" and then prices jumped a little. hopefully they stabilize...of course how many have us said that about the 52 mantle that we coulda/woulda/shoulda bought back in the day.

ah, the mind consummating of the hobby!

nice 71 ryan, matty. tough to find that one centered and unaltered w/o any recolored corners or borders.

Okay, so not exactly a card but the perfect dress shirt for a Hank Aaron fan to wear to work!

Meanwhile, added the 55 WS MVP for my 1956 Dodgers set but will likely return it due to small ink mark on right border.

i know its a pre-war card, but got to show my excitement to you guys.
Take a close look, its a double-print oddity, or as Sean says over-sized.
