Default Urban Shocker question

He went 18-6 in 1927 for the Yankees and then only pitched 2 innings in 1928then died later in 1928, anyone out there know why he didn't pitch in the 1927 World Series? 18-6 makes you a Game 1-4-7 starter these days.

He was too sick to pitch in the World Series..he tried coming back in 1928, but was desperately sick by that time.

I've read that Shocker had heart problems that kept him from participating at the end of the 1927 season, and eventually brought an end to his career in 1928. But then I don't know that, I wasn't there and I'm not a cardiologist.

Shocker was with the Browns, and was one of the best pitchers at the beginning of the lively ball era. His wife was a big fan of the game, and wanted to accompany Urban on a road trip. The Browns had a rule against that. This lead to Shocker wanting to be free of the Browns. Landis claimed control of the matter and that he would decide it, Shocker threatened legal action to become a free agent, and then the Browns traded him to the Yankees before Landis decided anything and before the courts intervened. The Browns traded him in December of 1924 for Joe Bush and some other guys.

Shocker was an interesting ballplayer.
