Default Old Judge Pricing Question

Posted By: Cy

A guy I know has an Old Judge Buck Ewing card with a nice picture. It is trimmed to just show the picture. the entire picture is there but everything else is trimmed. The card is graded authentic by SGC. What kind of price would be fair for this card?

Thanks.

Cy

Default Old Judge Pricing Question

It's so tough to price a card like that because it is very subjective. Some people wouldn't touch it, others would be happy to get a key HOFer cheap. I'll say around $300, but I'm only guessing.

Default Old Judge Pricing Question

Posted By: Fred C

I'm one of those people that Barry meant by "wouldn't touch it". I've only purchased one OJ that was severely trimmed. It was a Comiskey Browns Champs. I paid $75 for it. Normally I "wouldn't touch it" but it was offered at a higher price (a couple of years ago) and I got it for a bit lower. Ewing is rather common so I'm not sure I'd pay much more than $150 for a severely trimmed OJ of Ewing. I've seen a trimmed Delahanty go for near a grand recently, but that's a completely different story. Delahanty is pretty tough to come by. Ewing is much more easy to come by.

I'm with Fred here I would not touch it. I just don't like the looks of a card that is trimmed. Now, if it was the last Old Judge that I needed to complete a set, I might bite and hope I could upgrade later.

Default Old Judge Pricing Question

The picture on an OJ is everything to me. I don't like trimmed cards, but I'll take one if the photo is crisp and clear. The number one thing that bothers me about an OJ's condition is a faded photo. I don't understand why the grading companies don't seem to grade for photo clarity on the N172s.
