Default 1990 Fleer Jose Uribe????

I see some of these cards have sold on ebay for five figures. Thought it was a joke at first but is there something else to it? Am I missing something here?

Though it has been long thought to be a joke, I wondered if it was someone testing the ability to manipulate the market by falsifying ebay comps.

I doubt there are any confirmed sales of five figures. There are some that sold for 20000 obo and we don’t know what the bo was or if it was paid. I can see that a psa 10 sold for $210 but can’t confirm payment. People still don’t get the idea that you can list something for any price you want - getting someone to buy it is a different story. In my store I have plenty of 1990 Fleer Factory sets for sale for $5. That’s the value I put on them anyway.

I've seen this with other items that would seem to be of nominal value but insanely priced, which then sell at the "buy it now" price. I started wondering if it's a way to pay for illegal items using a credit card or Paypal but make it seem like you're purchasing an actual product. I couldn't figure out what other explanation made sense.

Probably at least a dozen between factory and hand collated. I also probably have at least a dozen wax boxes for 10 each. I’m not there right now to count. I put it with all the other junk. I would put them online but it costs more to ship than it’s worth.
Just for fun I put a Canadian uribe up to see what happens.

Mail them to COMC. Then you can sell them with minimal effort. The Uribe has been a fad for what, five years now?

I put a price tag on them and put them on a shelf. There isn’t any less effort than that.

It's amazing how long this joke has been going on for.

It's probably some sort of money laundering scheme.

Someone did an article claiming this. I don’t see any other reason. You can wash dirty money through an eBay transaction. Collectibles and art prices are so volatile at times that it would probably work.

It's a shame Uribe died over 12 years ago...he could be a big autograph target.
