Default World's Champions mini baseball bat

Posted By: Alan Elefson

Hi-
Please see the scan of this mini bat below. It says World's Champions in black on the barrel (surrounded by a black circle). I was told that these bats were given out to mark the 1912 Red Sox World Series win. Is this true? I am posting this to hopefully educate myself and others who might have these bats in their collections. I only paid a dollar for mine, so either way I do not mind (it is in very rough condition), but hopefully someone with knowledge might be able to chime in. Thanks in advance and I hope every one has an excellent holiday season!

Alan,

I recall seeing one of these bats in an auction a few years back and they did attribute it to the Red Sox at that time. Wish I could remember which auction it was. I don't believe it's marked for the Sox though (But if memory serves me, it might have had a ribbon attached to it?)

If there was definite proof that it was for the Sox, would love to get one one of these years.

Hope this vague information helps. Nice pickup!

Greg

I vaguely recall seeing a bat like that for the St Louis Cardinals...I think I saw it locally, but it's been a very long time ago.

Default World's Champions mini baseball bat

Hi-
Thank you very much for the information thus far! I found this bat in Yankton South Dakota (at the same antique store I found the basketball pencil box). However, a dealer I am friendly with (Pat Vermette, the Collector's Shop in Cotuit MA) said that these bats, with the knob the way it is, were issued along with razors (if anyone has a world's champions razor to show, I'd love to see it!) to commemorate the 1912 Bosox win. I do not know enough to challenge this (he is a long time New England area dealer), but when I bought it I figured it was some sort of local (or at least Midwest) piece that had more writing on it that was rubbed off. However I was told that is all the writing that is on it.
I am sorry for the rambling post but thank you again for all of your help!
Thanks,
Alan Elefson

There is a Red Sox razor...one is pictured in the Smithsonian Baseball book under Penny Marshall's collection I think.

I don't think that the bat is that early. The graphics look early, but I have seen them with 1946 mini pennants attached, even though they were not actually world champions that year (wishful thinking?).

There are at least two version of the Red Sox razor that I know of, possibly more. If I remember correctly, one is dated and one is not.

The stamping sort of reminds me of the Ty Cobb mini bats that can be found very inexpensively. Not sure when they came out though.

Not sure how much this is going to help, but below is a scan of a portion of a 13.5-inch mini bat that I've had in my collection for quite some time. I think the World's Champions stamping is very similar if not identical to yours. You'll also see that near the end of the bat is the stamping Souvenir of Cleveland. I always figured this to be from 1948 (mainly because I thought it would be incredible luck if it was from 1920), but the World's Champions, as opposed to "World" Champions doesn't seem to fit the time frame of the late 1940s as well as it does the teens or 1920s. But it's not like there was a written rule for something like that.
