Default Autographs of early players

Posted By: Patrick McMenemy

Thought it might be an interesting thread if we posted images of autographs of early players.

I happen to have a personalized Chief Meyers autograph in a first edition, "The Glory of Their Times." Furthermore, I have three(3) Ira Thomas autographs. I have 2 which are Scout cards. I have recently matted one of them with a International News photo. I also have an autographed Paul Thompson photo of Connie Mack and Ira Thomas in the dugout at the 1911 World Series.

I couldn’t believe my luck on this one! About a year ago I pick this card up off an E-bay auction thinking it was a defaced card that some kid practiced his autograph on. I sent the card in to get it graded thinking it may get a 1 or so but to my surprise the grading company called me back and asked me if I realized that the autograph was authentic! As you can imagine, I was rather pleased!

I finally had a chance to dig this out. I got it from Joe's son Bob a few years ago.

I'll have to dig out the autograph I have of Topsy Hartsel.
My aunt got it many years ago. Turns out he is my grandmother's uncle.
