Default US Caramels

I was wondering if any board member is putting together a set. Besides the Fred Lindstrom is this set hard? I have heard conflicting stories about it's difficulty. I am also looking for any tips or red flags. Also is there condition problems with the first( Collins) and last cards in this set?

Thanks for any help

I have been working on this set for a few years now and have just over 50% complete. The cards rarely come up for sale on Ebay in decent shape and when they do they sell for a hefty premium. A case in point is this PSA 5 Maranville which 2004 Standard Catalog lists for $235 in Ex and SMR lists it for $260 in PSA 5.

Beware of reprints especially of the Ruth card like this one :

Good luck !

I have been collecting US Caramel cards for three years and have half of the set completed. You can check out my set at www.sgccard.com. It is under the registry. These cards are tough to find and like ockday (Alan) said expect to pay 2 to 3 times the book value for a nicely graded card. The best places to find these cards are at eBay, Mastronet, etc..... Good luck collecting and if you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Thanks
William

thanks for the help and the links...awesome,,,

i had an opportunity to pick up 3 cards,,,The Collins, and both the Waners for 300. I believe that they will grade out at 3 for collins and 2 or 3's for the brothers. I was very concerned about over paying for the cards. Regardless I got them and like them, so what I paid is no longer a concern...I have gotten good and bad deals in the past, so my only concern now is liking the cards, and I do..Thanks again

I have been working on this set for about 3 years now. My Lindstrom is a $20 ebay Feldman special. The remaining cards are all real and grade from VG to EX+. I need 1 card and it comes up but is expensive, Bobby Jones. I missed a good deal in AC National for $400, Jon Richmond beat me to it. Dan.
