Default Tuesday Trivia: Back-to-back MVPs at each position

Of the first 10 players to win MVP in consecutive years, all 9 positions were represented. Who are those 9 players and what position did the play during their back-to-back MVP seasons?

If my memory is correct Berra, Banks, Maris and Murphy were back to back winners.

I ask this question all the time. Though I phrase it "The first 9 players to win back to back MVP's represented all 9 positions (if you make outfield positions interchangeable)"

Ernie Banks was the first shortsop and Maris the first RF to win consecutive MVPs. But neither Berra nor Murphy were the first at their positions. (I am not using outfield positions interchangeably)

Yogi Berra was the first catcher (sorry I was thinking Cochrane, but he didn't do it back-to-back). Hal Newhouser was the first pitcher, Joe Morgan the first 2B, Mike Schmidt the first 3B, and Barry Bonds the first LF.

Just missing First Base.

Then it has to be Foxx or Gehrig I guess.

Jimmie Foxx won his first two MVPs in '32 and '33.

Great job everyone!

I know Hubbell won two MVPs also but not back to back. Are there any others besides him and Newhauser?

To win two total I mean.

I think Walter Johnson was the first player to win multiple MVPs

Oh wow. I didn't realize Walter had two MVPs too.

If Ohtani wins this year, does he go down as another two time pitcher? Pretty small club.

How does Babe Ruth win only one MVP award?

Nolan Ryan never winning a Cy Young Award is what amazes me.

So I think Walter Johnson won MVP twice and the Babe only once because from 1911-14 it was the Chalmers Award presented by the Chalmers Automobile Company. WaJo won it in 1913 and the Babe's first year was 1914.

There was no MVP award from 1915-21. From 1922-1929, the MVP award was reinstated and became the “League Awards”, during which time, both the Babe and WaJo won only one award, because, according to the rules, a player was only allowed to receive the recognition once.

There was no award in 1930, and in 1931 Left Grove won it with a 31-4 record and 2.04 ERA (Babe Ruth finished 5th, but still probably deserved to win it). The Babe was no longer as dominant from 1932 to the end of his career in '35.

Ah ok. Probably by any objective measure and assuming no no-repeat rule he should have won 8 or more times.

He had an OPS over 200 eleven times. Have to think he would have won every one of those seasons alone.

Actually two of those 200 plus OPS years he finished 5th and 6th. Insane.

Other than the stomach ache year, he led the league EVERY year from 1919 to 1931, and had 201 in 1932.
