The 1919 Black Sox stolen confessions, would really like to see those surface again.

While anything is possible...
I have a hard time believing that Robinson's debut uniform could fetch 10 million.
Something from Ruth? Yes. ....Gehrig? Possibly, but doubtful. .....Robinson? No.

I'll rephrase. I'm not sure any one piece could reach $10M...I just believe that uniform could/would set records. If you watch Ken Burns' Baseball documentary, woven throughout the 10 episodes is the overarching theme that, along with Ruth, Robinson was the single most important figure in the game.

Well, I guess we'll see what Ken's got, soon. No pressure on him now.

Isn't the luckiest man jersey in the hall of fame now?

I do not think that he owns the Ruth uniform anymore.

He did as of last year. I saw it, and had a picture taken of it.

To me, the only two figures that would garner enough outside money to have any chance of reaching $10,000,000 would be Ruth or Jackie. No other sports figure in any sport could come close to that number I do not think. And even with Jackie or Ruth, it would be maybe only one item that could do it. For Jackie it would be his first game jersey. The historical significance of that piece would rightfully garner interest the world over. The only Ruth piece would be a rookie Red Sox jersey. Perhaps a Baltimore jersey.

If I had to take a guess which of the three above jerseys would go for the most money, my money would be on Jackie's first jersey. Assuming enough outside interest is brought in.

Maybe the Babe gave a St. Mary's uniform to the same guy as he gave his catcher's mitt.

J.C.'s post seems to be more than a guess though, it sounds like he knows it's Cy Young.

The PSA 8 Wagner would. Kendrick has turned down 10 million for it, but I don't think he would sell it.

Someone would pay 10 million for the Wagner? Even after the truth behind the card came out?

The truth has been known about that card well before Mastro's admission and it never hurt the selling price.

It sold for 2.8 mil only 10 years ago before the Mastro admission. You think it'll appreciate 5 times along with the admission?

Yes. That card, or one of the 52 Mantles in PSA 10 could easily go for 10m.

It would actually be less than 4x in appreciation by the way.

My comment was not supporting the value of the Wagner at 10 mil were it to come to market but to point out to you that every person who has owned it knew the history before buying and paid up for it anyway. Again, Mastro's admission does not change the value of the card, imo. PSA is never buying it back so it is an 8 because we all know the flip rules.

Finally whatever item it is that Goldin will be auctioning will most likely sell for considerably less than his promotional tour will suggest.

Ah, that's the issue, I'm talking about more than one admission. There's the admission that the card was trimmed, but also the admission of shill bidding in their auctions. That sale price was the highest bid, but maybe not truly the sale price, which could mean that 2.8 million is not really the benchmark for that card.

The sale at 2.8 million was a private sale. This card was not part of the shill bidding that took place at Mastro Auctions.

It's a time machine that can only be used once. This machine will allow you to take a trip back in time and see whatever sporting event LIVE that you would like to see.

If you had a spare $10 million dollars laying around that you could spend frivolously would THAT be something you would spend your money on?

Default To the guy that said love him or hate him

I'll bite, I hate him and the crap he did to the hobby I love. with all the garbage he was huckstering on shop at home. I think he is a horrible person and the way he,in my opinion, misrepresented what he was offering should have been criminal. It was sure as hell immoral in my opinion. If Kenny doesn't like this I don't care. I find him repugnant. I won't cease and desist on my opinion of him I think he's a jerk and a blowhard I'd consign to any auction house before his. If he were the only option to buy and sell with I'd find a new hobby. I actually cringe when Leon sends out the emails about his auctions. In fact Leon if u could remove me from the list of spam about his auctions I'd appreciate it. I wouldn't buy a Wagner t206 from him if it were half priced.

This thread has been fun to read because these items are incredible. I like the Robinson jersey and PSA 10 1952 Topps Mantle, but will guess something new even though I don't think it exists: T206 Joe Jackson printer's proof.

It's the letter asking for Wagner's permission to be in the T206 set -- and his reply letter -- that go on the auction block.

(And you thought the Neal Ball letter was cool...)

(Let's just hope that they aren't written in Calibri. )

Regardless of what the item (or items) may be, I think the email many of us received has generated the discussion results that were desired.

We're all talking about it, guys...

I'm guessing it's either a 1988 Fleer Billy Ripken FF error PSA 7 or a 1989 Upper Deck Griffey PSA 7 or even better.

Didn't know much about these guys so did a little googling. Interesting read. Brought me across Don West. A guy I had long since forgotten. You want to feel gross...go watch his Beanie Bears video. I showered twice after that one.
