Default T212 1910 OBAK Card - Hartman is really Harmon

Finally solved the mystery of the 1910 T212 Obak card known just as HARTMAN (Tacoma / N.W.L) - His name is really HARMON

Walter K. Hartman - real name was Walter K. Harmon
Born: 6 August 1883 in Manchester, New Hampshire
Death: 15 September 1962 at age 79 in Coos County, Oregon
Bats: Left • Throws: Left
Position - Center Field
Full Name: Walter Kingsley Harmon
Nicknames: Red / Hartie / Red Headed Hartman / Little Eva

On the 1910 United States Federal Census (taken on the 20th April 1910) for Walter K. Hartman / Washington Pierce Tacoma Ward 2 District 0222 / he is listed as a Ball Player / League Team - he is staying at the Bostwick Hotel (on South 9th Street, Tacoma) with 8 other players. He appears to be rooming with Curtis Coleman also on the 1910 Tacoma Baseball team.

Walter K. "Red" Hartman who played center field for Tacoma and hit in the leadoff position in the batting order. He only played in part of the 1910 season for the Tacoma team. He was in the opening day lineup but by the end of July 1910 there are no more records about him being at Tacoma.

Santa Cruz Evening News, Volume 9, Number 7, 8 November 1911 - Walter Hartman, a former Sand Crab, came into town last night and will spend a few days here. "Hartie" has been playing with the Moose Jaw team, in the Twilight league, in Western Canada.

(Santa Cruz Sentinel, Volume 58, Number 75, 30 March 1912) Walter Hartman under contract to play with Missoula, Montana, team of the Union league, departs today for the training camp with the best wishes of his many friends for a successful season.

(4 April 1912) - Hartman, the big outfielder from Santa Cruz, California arrived this morning and watched the men at work this forenoon. Although just recovering from an attack of grippe Hartman appears to be in good shape. He comes with a good record, being with the Moose Jaw club of the Canadian league most of last season. Year before last he was with Blankenship of the Tacoma team of the Northwestern league. He has been playing winter ball at Santa Cruz until recently.

(Finally solved the mystery of who Hartman was) Santa Cruz Evening News, Volume 4, Number 19, 22 May 1909) The fans will be sorry to hear that Hartman the fast center fielder of the Santa Cruz Sand Crabs, will be out of the game for some weeks as a result of breaking his ankle in the eight inning with Oakland yesterday afternoon. "Little Eva" broke the bone sliding to third and was carried off the field by his team-mates. Hartman was always up and doing, and worked hard for the success of the team. He has no peer as a base runner in the entire league. His real name is WALTER HARMON but the fans started calling him HARTMAN and the latter name stuck. Hartman came to Santa Cruz from Fresno last season.

So Walter K. (Kingsley) Hartman is really Walter K. (Kingsley) Harmon which matches up to the records of - Walter Kingsley Harmon (1903 - 1907).

Hope this information helps!

Nice detective work! There are many players who aren't themselves in our sets. And some who are sort of themselves but not really, like E97 Young .
