Default 2022 Acquisitions

Are we ready to start a new thread?

This card is from 1978-79, which was Malone's first MVP year.

I saw Moses play for the Spirits of St. Louis in 1975. Caldwell Jones was also on that team, and after the 1981-82 season, when Malone averaged 31 and 14 for the Houston Rockets and won his 2nd MVP, he was sent to the 76ers in a sign-and-trade for Jones and a draft pick. The next season, Malone won his 3rd MVP with the Sixers as he led them to the NBA Championship.

I still recall an anti-drug TV commercial Malone did in the early 80s. It was just him, drenched in sweat, slamming the ball against the backboard and catching it over and over, and either he or the announcer then says you can't do this if you're on drugs. Devastating. You could do a lot worse than have him in the low post. And you can talk about J all you want and not to take anything away from him, but Mo was the guts of those great teams.

Moses was truly an all-time great. I consider him in the top 25 players to ever play the game (I've got him at #21 for what its worth). Nobody, not even Kareem, could stop him in the low post!

Finishing up my graded 1971 set. Why collect the 1971 Topps Set? Because it had the greatest design in the history of basketball cards! Guys named "Skeeter," bright colors, ABA players, and many jerseys turned around backwards for the picture... love it. Just some "commons" here in these images.

No real value, but I am thrilled to add this Fred "Downtown" Brown regional RC. He was death in the 4th quarter with a game on the line.

Love the 1971 set, esp. since it was the first ABA set. I wouldn't exactly call Mack Calvin a common, though he is priced like one:

5× ABA All-Star (1971–1975)
3x All-ABA First Team (1971, 1974, 1975)
All-ABA Second Team (1973)
ABA All-Rookie First Team (1970)
ABA All-Time Team

Thanks, Jeff! I love the image on that Jordan. Who is in the air next to him there?

I believe it's Scott Williams behind Jordan and Will Perdue in front. Pippen is the Bulls player with the black wristband.

Finally took the plunge. Figured I didn't want to be the guy who didn't buy an iconic card when it was "affordable":

Adam I'm not sure about the refractors, but a high percentage of the regular Chromes have some greening and the ones that don't almost certainly will get there. I forget the explanation now, it may be similar to why a couple of years of Topps Tiffany tend to yellow. It's actually interesting in hand.

It is the dyes. Perhaps one day it will be treated like silver coin toning, which has a varied reaction among collectors. Me, personally, I do not care for the greened chromes. I have a few...unintentionally.

As mentioned the consensus I've read is that they will all get there eventually, so if you want cards like the Kobe you won't really have a choice, but who knows.

I should have my Diana Taurasi rookie card back from the private signing I sent it in for in the next few days. I've decided to focus on basketball now. Lebron's rookies have a lot of room to grow, as long as they become the next iconic card the same way the Fleer Jordan has. I feel like most of Wilt's cards are relatively cheap for his status in the game. Same for Jabbar.

Caldwell was one of FOUR brothers to play in the NBA. He was surrounded by superstars and big egos, but he was a solid player, the type any coach would want on his team.

I saw his brother Charlie (listed as Charles) play in the CBA for the Bay State Bombardiers. Basketball Reference does not seem have the info correct on his career. He was in the CBA when he signed his 10 day contract with the 76ers. His one game that first season was against the Celtics at Boston Garden. I remember talking to him outside the locker room after the game. Very soft spoken. I was glad when he finally made it into the league and had a long career and an NBA Championship. That 82-83 season with the Bombardiers was played at Brockton, MA high school. Under coach Johnny Neumann (x-ABA player) they went to the playoffs. The first round they faced the Albany Patroons coached by Phil Jackson. This is the year Jackson won his first pro basketball championship. The coach of the Lancaster Lightning that year was Jackson's teammate on the Knicks, Cazzie Russell. The first time Lancaster came to Brockton their starting point guard was John Lucas. This was his way back into the NBA after substance abuse issues.

I grew up in the Washington DC area and remember Lucas well from the University of Maryland. If I recall correctly he had more of a set shot than a jump shot. I also recall that he was a very highly rated tennis player,

Don`t have too many basketball cards in my collection but have always liked the look of the 1986 Fleer Jordan editions. Being a small fry, had to settle for this version of the "86" sticker.

Early 1960s PC-sized Wilt photo card. My guess is a fan mail reply card.

Nice Difusora. Haywood, Scott and White pre-rookie, I think.

Picked up this Rodman back in April and Pippen arrived yesterday. I like the look of the 1988 Fleer.
