Default SGC's Message Board Gone?

Is everyone else seeing the same thing I have for a few days? It has not been too active as of late and SGC had zero presence on there. Hopefully it is a precurser to the overhauls that have been talked about. I really like SGC so I hope that is the case.

Odd....it has never been active much anyway, but that surely is a bad sign.

What overhauls are being talked about?

Registry and website overhauls have been talked about by SGC in the past.

They can use a website update since they're still promoting that they'll be at the Chantilly VA show in March-April 2017 on the front page pictographs.

To me, their website, registry (or lack thereof), etc., is what holds them back from overtaking PSA. They would be very wise to undergo a complete overhaul of their systems.

Overtaking PSA would be a pipe dream. A working website and useful pop report/set registry might get them 20% of the way there.

lately, the only thing in common with PSA is missing their turnaround times

Sorry, should've been more specific. I meant more in a market value sense. PSA cards normally carry more of a premium and are valued more than SGC. But I think that's largely due to the registry difference rather than slab appeal/reputation/etc.

With SGC being in Florida doubt they will do anything about these issues soon. From what I understand its pretty much a skeleton crew now.

Default Good Move!

Pulling the plug on the message boards was a good move. It was like
beating a dead cat. No need to keep it up and running if you weren't
going to support it.

If it were me I'd take the registry out too. Bring it behind the barn and
put it out of its misery. I just logged in after some time to look something
up for a friend after he saw this post and it was tough to work with. Rough!

What a shame

SGC HAD a nice opportunity to really provide some competition for PSA .... 10 years ago. Nothing.

SGC needs new ownership plain and simple.

Agreed....what NOT to do for a business would be a perfect market study for them.

unfortunately the only real value for SGC is their brand, and it appears that aint worth much.

You have to be big to make it scale in that business; both to build the brand and the operations to grade cards. SGC is probably at a cross-roads where they need an investor or some capital; essentially betting on the come that this investment will bring them on par with PSA.

Maybe no-one wants to put their money on the table?

The board went down sometime last weekend - I sent an email to Matt (as I thought also that it was say MY account was suspended.

Response from Matt :

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It's not saying your account is suspended it's saying the SGC message board account has been suspended. I am not sure what this is about but I will contact our web manages immediately and keep you updated.
Thanks,Matt

That was Sept 3 - I wondered how long it would take for it to hit these boards - 1 full week. So yea not a whole lot of traffic heading to the SGC Boards. I'm guessing that everyone there has headed North now so I expect not a lot going to happen on it anytime soon. So sounds like either the board is being overhauled (and Matt doesnt know it) or someone didnt payy a bill. Either way not real reassuring to this long time SGC supporter.

I am assuming the SGC message boards are gone permanently? I sent them a message asking if it was just temporary or permanent, but they didn't reply.

Why don't we give them a break. Whacked with a hurricane. A message board is likely far down the list. Some of these folks could have lost their homes.

SGC has become like the SF Giants this year . . . totally irrelevant.

I wish the SF Giants were totally irrelevant. They just beat my Rockies 2 games to zip.
