Default What's your E107 number?

In the last 1 to 1.5 years, have noticed more E107's available at auction. Set in large part by the release of the Chris Sullivan Collection through Legendary auctions. I have slowly collected a few for the last 6 years. At one time labeled as one of the rarest sets to obtain, I was curious how many are owned by other fellow members. I am at 15(one duplicate), not too many. I assume some, have much larger collections.

I have a whopping two! I used to have four, but sold off two very nice ones (Buck Freeman and Earl Moore) for prices that would be considered laughable today.

i had 2...sold 1 so I now have 1. i think they are very tough...there just have been a lot come up in the recent past...and with that comes resales to give the perception they are not so tough.

similar with t208's a bunch of years ago...a few near sets came up for auction and since then types can be found pretty easily...before that...nil.

Used to have 4-5. Paid about $100-200 each at the time. Long gone now, I'm afraid.

Hey Barry

Nah, I AINT in the lead by a long shot. Not tryin either. Huge set, real expensive.
I think a lot dont have more because they are type collectors or they buy a nice one(like that Chesbro above) precluding buying more. Not sure I want to go any further. I know one other member is trying to gain a heck of a lot.

Very nice Chesbro!!

I have owned three in my life - McGinnity, Bender, and Plank. I now own zero. I wouldn't mind a Joss or Bender for my ultimate collection, but they simply aren't priorities for me now.

I absolutely love them though!

Sadly only 27 on the rebuild with a dupe or two, just not motivated enough to reassemble the set. Chris and I worked feverishly for nearly a decade, going thru hundreds upon hundreds of them to get where we both ended up, he #2 and myself #3. For anyone to reassemble a group of 140-150 would be very difficult now, with no large groups available. Of course the two current finest sets are both held by board members(not usually posters).

Here are a couple left over.

Default My Favorite Set

E 107`s have always been my favorite set. Picked up my 1`st ones about 8 years ago and now up to 14. Nothing nearly as nice as the ones posted here but like many others always on the lookout for affordable beaters to add to the collection. Here`s a couple of mine, enjoy seeing what other members have of this great set !

My peak was 16 HOFers and 2 commons. So, I guess 18. Easily my favorite set of all time.

Beautiful examples, Scott. Not bad leftovers to show!

I own just one, the Jimmy Collins. I used to own the George Davis along with a McGraw (not pictured), but now I'm down to just the Collins.

This set is a longtime favorite of mine since I've been in the hobby and I suppose I have a bit of a history with it I topped out at around 42 quite a few years ago. Included in that 42 were several HOFers- Waddell, Willis, Flick, Plank and Joss.

About that time I also wrote an article for OldCardboard as well. I believe that was for their 4th issue in the summer of 2005. Had some help and scans donated from several board members at that time too.

After selling off those type 1s, I focused squarely on the 7-card Type 2 subset and had 6 of the 7 at one point before tapping out. Kind of wish I had kept going with those but I believe I wanted a house a little more that year and that Delehanty which was worth 12-15k at that point, was tying up a little too much of my financial resources.

I recently started collecting again and have been trying to snag commons whenever I can. I'm up to about 19 right now. I've won a couple nice ones from the Legendary auction offerings, however the tougher commons seem to be eluding me right now as bidding on those tends to get kind of aggressive. I have a feeling that some of the bigger collectors with far more wealth than I are currently kicking my butt on those.

So I guess my plan is to take the next 30 years (lol) and see where I'm at. I'm only collecting commons and my goal is to get 100 of them to start off with. I'm 37 years old now, so hopefully there's enough time to see this project through...heh!

Here's a nice Freil I picked up recently....

About the same time Mr. McQueen was collecting them (which always happens ) I was trying to accumulate as many as possible. Never had more than 15 or so at once, but have had many single cards since parting with them. Only hofer I've had was McGinnity which might be the same example that other board members have had.

Also had a few from the famous stained, mouse bitten group.

Neat story, Rob, I had forgotten that you had a pretty nice grouping of these as well back in the day

How much have lower tier HOFers been going for lately? After seeing that Collins and Davis, I really want one now. I love the unique portrait poses. Chesbro is also an awesome pose.

Wasn't there a website that had almost all the E107 images and caption variations? I can't relocate the page.

in the last few years Legendary auctioned off a huge collection of them. I have the catalog which is as close as I've come to buying one. The supposedly highest graded Chesbro was sold in that auction and the was listed on eBay recently for $15K I believe.

Default My favorite set of all time

I sold my baseball card collection years ago, but the E107 set was easily my favorite of all time. I topped out at 10 HOFers (11 if you count that I had both the Type I and Type II Lajoie), and 2 commons. I miss these cards more than all of the others.
