There's a much less obvious mold, which can only be seen if you let the light glance off a smooth card..T206s and (especially) T202s are susceptable...it's just little transaparent DOTS of stuff...comes from the card being exposed to dampness, either in your possession or someone else's. T202s are so susceptable, that either Mark M or I coined a word for it "Card ich" pronounced "ick"(after the fungus that grows on some tropical fish-- fresh water, at any rate). Nasty stuff.

I've never tried this but I've taken a microbiology course and from what I understand fungi(and most other bacteria for that matter) do not like vineger because they can not live in the acidic environment. I'd recomend apple cidar vinegar.

The active infestation might well be dead but the stains are in the fibers of the card. You should google mildew and find out what options are there for stain removal. Probably you are stuck, tho

We are all told some silly things, and this may be one. But I have been told the following process meets with some success:

Microwave card on high for 1 minute.

Remove, let it sit a few minutes.

Wipe with swab soaked in isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.

I paid big bucks to have mold removed from a card by a professional paper conservation company. It was the same company that did Andy Baran's Burkett. If you're interested, email me and I'll try to find their contact information. They did a nice job. The mold was pretty bad, but not nearly as bad as yours.

As a chemistry student, a good way to get rid of mold would be vinegar. However, I think distilled water will be the most effective. I know it works well to clean off the tobacco on t206's.

Did someone use the cards to culture penicillin or something? Yikes. PSA will need a new qualifier. ST doesn't really fit, so I guess "M" for mold it is. Seriously, I would be very surprised if you could get that off without affecting the underlying paper, but good luck.

i took them to a restoration specialist here in town today! he will get back to me by monday...it's not mold ... he's not sure what it is just yet..but it's not mold.

20 dollars a card .... i don't know that the 'value' has been increased by that much.... but i wanted to use these cards since they were relatively inexpensive.
I learned a lot from the guy. I'd be happy to share with people. He also said he'd be happy to answer any more questions so I can always ask him more questions.
