Dan, great pick up. That's what I love about the memorabilia side, no checklists. You never know when you'll find something you didn't know existed. I found this new Joe Wood 1907 Hutchinson postcard the other day. I've never seen it before. The second one is the new one.

With Yankee Stadium set to close this year, it seems appropriate to share this one of the Polo Grounds... and the message it contains. The postcard was mailed on 3/2/23, just six weeks before Yankee Stadium opened on 4/18/23. The second paragraph reads, "The Yankees' new field is within sight of the Polo Grounds. It will be ready by April. Much bigger and nicer than this." Love the Yankees or hate them, it's easy for true fans of the game's history to appreciate postcards like this one.

Great card Brian! That makes an otherwise common card a real treasure.

Here's some gals from Niobrara, Nebraska circa 1913...I'm pretty sure the ME stands for Methodist Episcopalian.

Hey Phil,

Vintageball.com has the year of issue as 1907. I have seen other people list it at later dates. I'm sure you've probably seen that site, but if not it's pretty informative with some nice pics of many postcards.

Edited to add: Thanks for the compliment Phil.

Mike

not politically correct but it is what it is.....I firmly believe this part of Americana culture should NOT be shoved under the rug but talked about so we don't have it happen again (bigotry and racial prejudice)....though I am not naive enough to "not" know it still exists I do know it's not as prevelent as it used to be. (that was a really poorly structured sentence)....This little guy and girl look like they are having fun and not too worried about it....

Hi Leon

I think your postcard depicts a cricket match, as I look at the bat and the wickets.

Rob, I had one of those Detroit variations, I think it is Cleveland right?. I think I sold it for $300.00 plus a few years ago.

Below is one I have shown before, but Hey, Ty Cobb is there in the middle.

Steve M, check your 7th postcard in your post, I think it is the 7th. Looks like some of the same players are in this postcard.

Ty Cobb, Spikes flying!

Joe,

Yep, the image is actually that of League Park.

Another of my favorites:

Not prewar, but a Van Patrick/Indians postcard from 1947 is worth a post, IMHO:

Geez, it's astounding how you guys and gal come up with these items! Bodacious!

Phil, what's the story with the handwritten numbers on the Railroaders?
Is there a legend on the back that names the players?

Hi-
I was wondering if anyone might recognize either of the gentlemen depicted in the RPC scanned below. My usual thought is Joe Blow from Iowa, but the gentleman holding the bat has a face that I believe I have seen before. Also, when I have shown the RPC to a couple of dealers, they too said at least one of the faces look familiar. So, I figured I would piggy back on this post, and see if anyone else recognizes either face. I assume as I stated above that this is just Joe Blow from Iowa (or somewhere else). Thanks in advance for responses to my probably useless question.
