What league did the Kansas City Red Sox play in?

Phil, it would probably take you about as long to use Google as to ask this question. You could also use the 'search' feature of this forum.
I fully understand your point, but it would be much easier to respond to if you would simply post it.

Scott:
I did a google search first and nothing came up, hence the question The bottom line is: I don't believe that the team pictured on the postcard is the same one that Casey Stengel played for and obviously then Stengel would not be pictured there. The scenario becomes even harder to believe when you state that there are other photos picturing Casey Stengel on this Kansas City Red Sox team (which I don't think is even a professional baseball team) when he played a total of 4 games in 1910 for a Kansas City minor league team, which I believe is correctly identified as the Blues on Baseball-Reference.com. How many photo opportunities would 4 games played lend itself to? Last edited by bcbgcbrcb; 03-08-2013 at 10:36 AM. |

Phil, that wasn't so difficult, was it?

I found the previous Net 54 post about it, don't remember seeing it before. It mentions a semi-pro team which could be the one on the postcard. I don't know that much about Stengel nor his amateur career and am not going to start endless research on it so I will graciously apologize for the misunderstanding and leave it as is.

Other than my own theories, I know little more than you do, but I feel that there is still research that I can do to validate those theories (or invalidate them). I have to visit northern Missouri, Iowa and Chicago, to research a baseball team I'm writing about - the Japanese Base Ball Association - so I'll just add the Kansas City Red Sox to the research list. The bigger area of doubt, unfortunately, is whether or not the postcard is real. I tend to lean toward the negative when it comes to such things, so I'm meeting with David today to go over it in detail.

Great Mays postcard, Pete!!
Picked this one up recently. Almost certain this is Olson's Cherokee Indian team. Circa 1910.

I don't blame you, Scott. If I had the chance to buy that postcard, then I would do the endless research involved, especially since it would pre-date 1910 when his T210 card was issued and which costs a fortune and I can't afford right now. This postcard would fill that spot in my collection and I would not have to spend thousands to get a 1910 Stengel card.

So you think he played for the Red Sox team after 1910? I was thinking semi-pro would have preceeded his minor league days, that's why I went with pre-1910.
As an aside, do you have an image of the Maysville postcard? Last edited by bcbgcbrcb; 03-08-2013 at 12:48 PM. |
