Default magazine covers

Trivia: Name the 5 individuals who appeared on the covers of Sports Illustrated, Time and Life magazines from the inception of SI (1954) through the termination of Life as a weekly (1972).

I had been unaware of JFK, which is correct. My apologies.

Staubach is right.

I am embarrassed to say I had not done sufficient homework before posing this question. I am aware of one other correct answer -- an Olympian.

Bruce Jenner? Oh, I didn’t see the 1972 cut off with Life magazine. So it wouldn’t be Jenner. Maybe Arnold Palmer appeared on all three covers.

With the help of these responses I have identified 7 individuals who meet the standard. All have been mentioned above: JFK, Ali, Frazier, Namath, Staubach, Fischer and Spitz. If the question were re-drawn to remove the 1954 starting date limitation, then Sugar Ray Robinson would qualify as he appeared on Time in 1951. And, I suspect there would be at least several others if question extended to include Life for its (post-1972) monthly and special issues. Nadia Comaneci, for example, appeared on a 1990 Life cover, having appeared on Time and SI in 1976.

One last correction. Baseball players omitted: Mantle, Mays, Williams and Stengel.
