I heard if ever completed a 1914 Cracker Jack set would go over for 100,000 dollars.
i like to collect very much. But i always had dreams of becoming the best collector out there and making my dad happy. Who he introduced baseball to me . So i wanted to figure out what is the most valuable set ever if completed and sold ? Then hopefully I can complete it and give it to my dad. If he still alive by then .

First Jeff changes his avatar and now Sean is back.

I'm going to look over my shoulder now and see if Rod Serling is there.

First the Cubans, then the Jeff-imposter with the wrong avatar and now this.

I think I need to go hide in a bar until it's over. Let me know when the the sun starts rising in the east and setting in the west again.

OK. I got $20 says it's not Sean - that someone is joking with it. Any takers?

Sean- it seems like you are asking the same exact questions you asked before you were booted off, that is: how much is it worth?

It's a small mint...it's a junior mint!

Sean...

The most valuable set: Go with the W565's. You should be able to get the set for $60. Add $4.05 for shipping.

So now we are at $64.05, add $2.79 for a gift bag...

Whole set of 4 and the gift bag: $66.84

Dad's Face....priceless

My favorite Yogi Berra saying was when he was buying a pizza and was asked if he wanted it sliced into six slices or eight slices. He responded that he only wanted six because he couldn't eat eight.

i have an unopened case of 1989 topps cards. i bet if you open all the packs in all the boxes, you could make a complete set. maybe two. and each pack has a piece of gum. bonus!

Sean, it depends what you mean by the most valuable set. I believe the two sets of cards that have sold for the most money were a Cracker Jack set and a 1952 Topps set. But those sold for so much money only because the cards were all in nearly perfect condition. If you took the PSA 8 T206 Honus Wagner card and added it to any T206 set, it would sell for more than even these very high grade Cracker Jack and 1952 Topps sets.

If you're looking for the most valuable set when you factor out condition, there are lots of candidates. An N172 Old Judge set would sell for a fortune in any condition if it existed. So would a set of N173 Old Judge cabinets. The T215 Pirate set being auctioned by Mastro at the National Convention will also sell for a fortune. An E107 caramel set would also sell for a fortune. Any of these would sell for dozens of times more money than a Cracker Jack set or 52 Topps set in similar condition.

Sean:

I know that you obtain Beckett's publication. Have you reviewed that from Old Cardboard? The specialty of that magazine (Old Cardboard) is old sets which includes those which are rare, costly, unique or otherwise interesting.

it is the Fruit of the Loom set in 1902 with Wagner and Chesboro.

Wagner pitching IF AUTHENTIC comes with a brown stain and the front has a yellow finish on the throwing pose.

The Chesboro has a definite multi tone .

Just these 3 cards list for over 750k so i dont know where or what a C-Jack set would do in comparison.

So paul those 5 sets that you said would go more than the 52 topps and cj. Are their any other ones that would go for more. or those 5 are it.

What you're saying is:

Your father dosen't care for baseball cards either.
He just likes the sound of money, ... is that what you're saying?

Or maybe you didn't understand my question?

Would your father be proud of you, if the set that you completed was not a scarce set?

Now followed by:

Have you ever completed any set?

Joe

Hi Joe,
How are you doing??? Where is my Doyle scan??? You know I'll never own one, but maybe someday I can touch yours. Call me when you make it to NC and I'll buy you a steak you damn Yankee....(That means they moved south and stayed). Be well Brian

PS Sean is under 12, so I doubt he will understand your questions, much less your humor, so you might want to go easy on him.

PS 2 Bring the "Good' set when you come, and you're T209's so we can trade.

If the question hadn't been asked by an 11 year-old, there would be 100+ posts. How about answering the question? I will go with the answer that I believe to be obvious -- the T206 set with all of the cards, including the big 4. I'm over 11. Please feel free to correct or disagree with me if you think I'm wrong. Then we can have a discussion. Best.

As of this moment my thought is the most ever paid for a complete set is the 800k for the 1914 CJ's. I think that was Seans exact question. Did I miss a more expensive set ever sold? ( I realize there are probably ones that are worth more but have any sold, that we know of? )

Obviously the T206 set with the big 4 I would have to imagine would go for the most money...but thats because the big 4 are the big 4...and also helps there are over 500 cards in the set...

I guess if you look at it from the point of view of not being realistic...if someone could complete an OJ set...that would be worth quite a bit anyway...I know its pretty much impossible..but just having that amount of cards in a set....geez.

As far as a set being worth the most broken down in unit prices...could you imagine what an E107 "set" would go for?

Leon, in terms of a complete set, no, I don't believe a higher number has been reached. I suppose in terms of a partial set (nearly complete) the winner would be the Harris Collection for $1.1 million?

I misread the initial post and thought the question was what set would sell for the most. My bad. Leon, so far as I know, you are absolutely correct.

I think Leon is right (he usually is!), the CJ set went for over 800K, from the lady who brought them into Cleveland a few years ago, yes?

As a side question, what is the closest anyone has come to a complete OJ set? Is it even possible to answer that question? From my understanding, there is not a definite answer as to what makes up a complete OJ set.

I would imagine if anyone is close to completing the OJ set it would be Olberman. How many do you think he has now would be great to find out and could just imagine seeing them all laid out in a huge binder 9 to a page.

Keith wouldn't even be close to number one. The most comprehensive Old Judge set belongs to one of our board members, as well as the likely number two set. They are both well known but it is not my place to identify them.

Unless there's been a huge OJ sale, Barry is correct. Mr. Olberman's pile OJs wouldn't be quite as big as that of at least one board member, and maybe two members. Still, Mr. O's pile of OJs is a serious bunch.

But Sean, set goals that are attainable. Reach a goal, then set another. Take steps, not a giant leap.

Sean,

It comes back to the history of the game, read about baseball and decide which era interests you the most. Then start buying cards from that era, after a while you can decide which set from that era you like the most and select a set.

Peter
