am i wrong in thinking that this seller is outrageous in his shipping charges? he wants 16 dollars to ship a 30-40 dollar card

The seller is Broadway Rick's Strike Zone, and there are plenty of other reasons to stay away from anything he sells.

Probably a mistake as it looks like almost all his single card auctions have a $6 S/H fee attached.

I would stay away from his auctions anyway because of all the negative things pwople have said here in the past about Broadway Rick.

Purely out of principal, I'd stay from this seller. Apparently he's not concerned about repeat business, or good customer service. It's not a tuff card. Another will turn up soon enough.

He has 4 1/2 stars for shipping costs. I guess people don't want to leave bad ratings, even if those don't get communicated to the seller.

I try not to charge too much, and even with the rates going up, I will keep my current shipping prices - I might even have free shipping in the near future. Ebay can be a crazy experience at times

Take care Jimmy

on a side note ... isn't that a 1940 play ball, not a 1939 as stated in the auction?

Sure, it's a ridiculous amount for shipping. I don't get upset at eBay shipping charges any more. As with the buyer's premium in other auction forums, I just factor the shipping into the total cost. So if I wanted to pay 30 bucks for this card, I'd bid, say, 19 dollars tops. So it's $19 plus $16 for shipping for a total of $35, figuring 5 bucks for a civil shipping fee.

More and more eBay sellers are charging exorbitant shipping fees in an attempt to circumvent the fee they have to pay eBay--which is based on the hammer price.

I tend to undercharge for shipping, but with the new rates I think I may have to bump them up a notch.

By the way, I was at the post office today and when I handed the clerk a package I insured for $180, she said there is a new form to fill out for those valued less than $200. That's the cut off. It's a black label instead of a blue.

If you read the feedback coments, you'll see that most of his negatives are from one buyer. Gotta love it when the buyer calls him a "Slubberdegullion seller" and a "Self-righteous Poltroon!"

I don't see a problem with the shipping charge since he posted it clearly in the auction. If I was to bid on the card I would just bid ten to twelve dollars less than if he had a normal shipping charge.

Barry, prior to this week any item insured for less than $50.00 would not have a tracking number, starting this week any item up to $200.00 can be tracked.

Hi-

For those of you that are unaware, the US Postal System
has increased the prices on shipping bubble envelopes a lot....about 35% more, also based oin zip code..Priority mail is up, so is insurance about 10-15% across the board..also PAYPAL is definately OVERCHARGING if you use direct labels...a single PSA or SGC graded card(2.5 oz) was almost double for the basic shipping two days apart(May 13th-15th)

They are aware(supervisor) of the problem but it is not fixed yet, we called USPS.com..same exact package:

may 13th basic shipping before insurance/conf. on a $50 insured $2.12, to CAL.
may 15th same exact....$3.13 and this was Alabama vs California, from NY which is so much closer

USPS acknowledged that they had significant price raise but not as much as paypal has been stating...

call your rep!!!!!!!!!!! we did and they noted our complaint ...for probably no apparent reason, they conceded their is a problem but they will not refund the difference unless you cancel a shipping label..my customers would just love that, more delays....shipping is slow enough thru USPS

The postal clerks were telling me there are so many changes that they actually had a seminar. It got much more complicated for them, which translates into longer lines.

I just shipped my 1st bubble mailer single card with confirmation since the new rates went up. What cost me about $1.80 now cost me $2.50.....I am a small time pseudo-dealer so it's not that big of a deal...but if I were mailing a whole lot it would be....At least the PO I go to is ran extremely well....and getting back on topic. I agree that if a seller states the shipping charges we should just take that into account in bidding...though it still bugs me when they gouge.....regards

Standard weight USPS Priority with Delivery Confirmation went from $4.55 to $5.25. Guess they camouflaged all the other gouging when they raised stamp prices to .41!!

lots of you complain about high shipping costs
but don't blink twice paying the juice to an auction house
the shipping cost helps the seller recoup some of the ebay costs
and payment for his time spent listing, e-mails contacting, packaging,
shipping costs so don't consider the shipping costs too high if you feel they are then figure that cost into your final bid

Gas prices go up and so does everything else. You guys want to complain? start with the oil companies.

I seriously can't take this gas price stuff.....who cares? A gentleman I know bitches and bitches about gas prices, and then goes out last weekend and loses about $500.00 at a casino. Plus he drinks like a fish....but boy, those oil companies are rippin' us off. Yeah right....

Well if people can bitch about the post office raising their rates why can't I make the observation that costs are rising because it costs more to transport it? Seems pretty simple to me. I'm guessing if you guys had a company that relied on transportation you would just eat the extra cost of rising gas prices???

No one, including myself, wants to pay any more than they have to for "anything". Be it gas, postage, property taxes etc. etc. But listening to the media, you'd think that an extra .50 on a gallon of gas is going to cause life on earth to cease. The average gallon of bottled water is something like $6.50. How come no one complaining about this ? (I don't use that either). This is a baseball forum. So I don't want to beat a dead horse, but enough already on high gas prices. A friend in Denmark tells me they pay over $7.50 per a comparitive gallon.

It's our God given right to bitch. It makes us feel better (don't deny it..)....but lets try to focus it on baseball card stuff.....or things that pertain to them....to me, most of what is being complained about here does in fact relate to it in some way.....

Bill, if the seller is worried about all the extra cost associated with selling something on eBay, then why not add it into the opening bid or Reserve Price isntead of gouging on Shipping?? It seems like a bait and switch to me. "Here is a card I am willing to sell for $5 dollars but I am going to charge you $10 dollars to mail the thing. Yes, Postage is only $4.60 Priority but the extra $5 dollars helps off set my other costs".

Why not just start the thing off at $10 dollars and say upfront Postage is going to be $4.60?? This way people know beforehand that the seller wants $10 dollars for the card instead of finding out AFTER they have already won the thing. This way seems straightforward and honest to me.

Adding in extra for Postage to cover other costs seems dishonest and if I were a winning bidder and found out after I had won that Postage was going to be A LOT mroe than usual just because the seller is trying to recoup some sunk cost, I would be upset and probably not bid on any of their items again. Also, I thought eBay had rules against this sort of behaviour??

David

nobody likes to pay more for anything, myself included. However, if a person feels that shipping costs are excessive on an item, you don't have to bid on the item. If a seller is not getting bids and the shipping price is high, sometimes they change the listing and lower the price of shipping. Nobody has a gun at anyones head forcing them to bid.

Ken
