Not in any particular order, and price not a factor. Just some of my favorites. I own most of these.

34 Gehrig. Love those dimples.

34-35 Diamond Star Foxx. I just love it.

T214 Mike Donlin. Looks like he's holding a billy club, not a bat.

33 Goudey hack Wilson. Tiny little feet.

207 Buck Weaver. Great smile. Did he always choke up on the bat so far?

Ramly Cicotte. No reason. I just like it.

N162 Goodwin Champs. King Kelly. I wish I had a decent one. But alas..

T206 walter Johnson. A handsome fellow.

15 Cracker jack Ty Cobb. Don't have one. Wish I did.

33 Delong Gehrig. Just a beautiful card. I have the Foxx in a 7, but not this one.

Just a few of my favorites.

I decided to do something a little different and come up with a list of 10 prewar cards that are big cards or card types, not unattainable, that would be the cornerstones of a solid prewar collection.

1. Any 1933 Goudey Ruth
2. Any T206 Cobb
3. Any 1938 Goudey DiMaggio
4. 1934 Goudey Yellow Gehrig
5. N28 Anson
6. Playball Williams
7. T205 Cobb
8. Any T202 Cobb
9. Any OJ HOFer
10. Any T3 HOFer

Nothing super-special, but a collection that included all ten of the above would have the foundation of a really nice prewar collection that touches all the bases, so to speak.

I'm on the nonsport side, but used to collect baseball. Some great choices, a few I'm scratching my head about. But one of my alltime favorites, that didn't make anyone's list, is the 1914 CJ (e144) Mathewson. Just picture that full body follow thru and that fierce red background. Anyone agree ? I'd feel a heck of a lot better!

Richard,

The 1914 CJ Mathewson is a striking card, the problem is it would easy to have 3 or 4 CJ cards in your top 10. That would leave little room for T-206's and '33-'34 Goudeys.

Peter

I have to agree with Richard. All the horizontal CJ's are attractive, but the Mathewson sticks out the most. Great choice.
