Default Buy the card, not the holder...

I always try to ignore the holder and look at the card, and this latest acquisition seems to fit right into that philosophy. I will take 6's like this all day long over most 7's I see:

Nice pickup. I agree with you. I collect 52 topps, and centering for me is key. If I had a choice between a perfectly centered PSA 6 and an average PSA 8, and they were for the same price, I'd buy the PSA 6 every time.

I agree Adam. As someone who is going to trade in top notch cards the VCP and other guide prices can be thrown out the window. I prefer the ebay advanced functions for past sales as well as Google and Pricerealized.com, as opposed to VCP, as they are free.

Nope. I don't really care about the flip. If I enjoy the card I feel that much better if it is a 6 because it means I paid less for it. Let someone else try to bump it; if I sell they can pay me for the bump potential.

Leon, I use VCP to get a baseline read on a card. It does allow click-throughs to recent eBay completed listings, which is helpful. I usually check the low and high sales to see if there was some reason I can spot for the out of the norm price. I paid more for this card than VCP average for a 6 because the centering and registration made the card really look good to me. I imagine the toning on the back accounts for the technical grade.

here is my favorite example of a technical grade I don't care about:

I got the card for a song. The back is miscut, but who can read the back of a 1975 Topps BK card anyway?

Nice 6. There are a lot of nice 6s out there these days with the toughening grading standards and unless you have really keen youthful vision you need a loupe to see the difference from a 7.

Some sweet looking mid grade cards being posted. Here is very nice looking PSA 2 Bowman Willie Mays. The nicest 2 I have seen. Decent centering with sharp corners. Love the Palmer rookie.

The same people who seem to be able to read internet sites on the tiny viewing area of an iphone.

Huh? How'd that Mays get a 2?

Here is my contribution. I've never seen a PSA 3 or 4 I liked as much as my 2. I did eventually also buy a PSA 5.

Hey Jason,

Not 100% sure but the back of the card has some potential issues but I'm not sure it would knock it down to a PSA 2. Here is the back. Maybe it has a miscut qualifier along with a mark qualifier and the original submitter asked for no qualifiers. That is the best I can come up with.

Pete,

You are spot on. Since PSA has tightened up their grading, there are some very nice 6's and 7's that rival 8's or 9's, and can be had for a fraction of the cost. Just buying a grade after that.

Great thread, better cards. I got this one for $25. OC sure, top to bottom, but come on now. The tilt is just how the card is in the holder, and OC with the black horizontal borders doesn't detract to my eye. I will take this one all day long.

Beautiful cards all around. A couple of tiny, barely noticeable spots of glue on the back is responsible for the technical grade here.

at least they're getting the 0.5 grade bump for being 'superior for technical grade'...

That is a nice looking but miscut card. Is it your thought it's under-graded, or just has great eye appeal for the grade?

Who needs a PSA 6 when I can own this at a FRACTION of the price. (I wish I had more cards to share but I sold them all to buy this!) haha
Not too many nicer 4s...

Never said that it wasn't miscut, just pretty darn good looking compared to what I think of with miscut cards. I would have cracked it if I thought otherwise.

I picked up the Ford because it was selling cheap since it was labeled as OC. I don't see it myself. And I picked up the Williams because it was nicer than the 6's I was seeing.

Ok, here's the back. The scan is a bit squashed looking, but you get the idea.
