Goodwin Auction
suprised the bid even held up..In fact i gave a Clemente guy here a shot at it while it was still 'juicy'
Not my particular player and year...was hoping/looking for a RC of him, just couldnt pass this one up as nice it was.

Default Topps 1968 Discs

I satisfied my quest for the 1967 Topps Disc sets with a proof sheet of both from Topps Vault some years back. The 68 set is one of the toughest Topps test sets to cobble together. I have only been able to get 8 so far ( all in proof form), this being the latest

Nothing terribly great, but I knocked a bunch of HOF'ers off of my need list at a show today. Anyone knowing the centering issues of the 1972's should recognize how great it is to find a Hank Aaron in action that isn't 90/10 left to right. And the 1970 Clemente is one of my favorites, so I was thrilled to get it at a decent price.

Congratulations, Shaun! What a sweetie! No offense, gentlemen, but I think Shaun wins this thread hands down.

Here's hoping little Maria Gabriela and mom are both doing well, and resting comfortably. God Bless you and your family!!!!

Darren, you've had a lot of really nice pickups this month. Seeing your newest additions makes me want to go a little crazy on the ungraded 70s cards. I especially like the 1970 Clemente (of course, being a Roberto fanatic).

Well done! Thank you for sharing these.

Mike, I don't know if I've ever seen this set before today. I looked up '75 SSPC on Ebay, and I have to agree. They have the same appeal as the 1953 Bowman Color set. Wow. The Bowman cards hold a little more appeal for me because of the older uniforms and stadiums, but this '75 set is gorgeous.

There were two main reasons I quit the hobby for so long in the early 90's. First, the over-saturation of the market just killed it for me. It seemed that companies were just printing the cards 24/7. No quality control. No real appeal. Secondly, the cards themselves often looked hideous. Loud colors, horrible typography. It was just too much, and insulting to me as an (at the time) advertising art major.

Baseball is beautiful by itself, and doesn't need a lot of bells and whistles, you know? Take some great pictures, and let them speak for themselves. Maybe put the player's name, team and position in small print on the bottom. Nothing else is needed. The other info can go on the back.

I thank you guys for introducing me to this set. It's always great to find something new that tickles your fancy.

Bill,
I started upgrading some of my sets and with a couple of them, like 1970 and 1972, I've just been going full bore trying to complete them in nice shape with well centered cards. Here's a few more of my pickups from today...and you'll notice a nod to you in the top center position...

newstuff2.jpg

The in-action Billy Martin and Killer cards are impossible to find centered, so I'm pretty happy with these guys, even though the Killebrew has a somewhat diamond cut.

I always chuckle when I see Rollie without his mustache. He looks so different. He still sports it, thankfully. Here's a pic of him with my best friend and his daughter. He coaches her baseball team.

Yes, it is.

I moved to the Dallas area right before my senior year of high school (he and his family had just moved there from Tulsa, Oklahoma). We ran into each other on the tennis courts one day before school started, struck up a conversation, and have been close friends ever since.

He's truly one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Before I messed up my back, I'd usually fly out to Vegas every year, or every other year, to see him and his family.

I tell ya, it's a real trip seeing him on television. He looks pretty much the same as he did in high school (without the long hair, though). I keep asking him if he has a self portrait tucked away like Dorian Gray, lol.

Default Goldin Auctions - Branch Rickey Release Form

So apparently the release of player Robert Ramazzotti made room on the club for Jackie Robinson back in 1947. At least that's what the auction said. Anyways I'm pretty excited to have this piece of Dodger history.

Neat item Colby. Maybe an old newspaper or baseball history search will turn up additional info you could keep or display with the item

I'm planning on doing some homework on it once I have some time but finding some additional information to have it displayed with it will definitely be difficult to find!!

Slow progress on my '56 set...not sure why my scan is so crappy...card is sharp looking!

Nice 52 Mantle Chris, I'm assuming you did indeed win it?

Pat, great 59 Mick, that is beauty.

It tough getting behind on this thread, it makes commenting on everyones stuff difficult, but there are some excellent additions.

Default 1948 Leaf Musial

I originally posted this in the pre-WWII July pick-ups thread like an idiot. I now have a nice raw 1948 Leaf Musial available for sale if anyone is interested.

One of the coolest cards in the hobby, Dan. That's a gorgeous "5", too, with great centering and registration (tough on that issue). Leafs can look a little weird sometimes, but when everything comes together and the stars align, look out.

Thanks guys...I'm very pleased with the card. I've had a few come and go over the years, but this one is definitely a keeper.

The most I have ever paid for one single card, but I'm very happy with this one. Getting real close to wrapping up this 54 set. Just need 8 more. And only commons at that!
