Awesome cards. Here are mine:

And, for those that are not familiar with the set, there really isn't a Mantle "re-issue with caption." There were a handful reissued without the coating (like Al's Ruth above), but Mantle wasn't one of them.

My question is.. Why did SGC call mine a 'look n' see'?

Probably got it confused with the earlier issue. I've seen a handful of oddball cards incorrectly labeled.

Default Look n See

There is a Topps Look n See set from 1952. It has the same Ruth photo used in the Who am I Issue on it's only baseball subject. The set is otherwise presidents and other famous historical figures. I have the Ruth and will post it later

Default Look N See v Who Am I

SCD lists the Look N See as a 54 issue. I have seen it listed as a 52 issue. I would defer to Bob Lemke or David Hornish on the year. But the 67 Who Am I used the same Ruth photo---here are the two. The Mantle above is definitely a 67 Who Am I

I can recall finding the Topps Look N See cards in stores during the late winter and early spring of '53. I think Topps marketed the set as a way to bridge the slack period between major sports issues. Must have been successful if the company repeated the tactic in '54.

Hi Al-

I certainly missed you in Chicago, hopefully you can make the Cleve next year!

Look N See came out in 1952 and was sold into 1953 and very possibly carried over into 1954. It's in the 1953 ACC, which was published in Feb. 53 I believe and would have been set for printing in the fall of 1952. There is also a reference to it in the Topps ad in that book.

I have read it was a popular set that sold well, although I think it possible the highs may have been from '53 and the ACC brain trust (Woody Gelman was an editor) knew it was in the can even if not issued.

Great set, one of my favorites.
