I keep dreaming that one day these will turn up for some of the other century old sets and give us a lot more information on the printing. What's out there waiting to be found, or has been found but is not made public by its owner is a mystery, but every year a little more of it becomes public. Can't wait to see what we find next...

Picked this upgrade up too. Most of my set is what I would call a 4, VG-EX but PSA/SGC rank a 5-6. I'm a lot harsher on the corners and edges of the silvers than they are, I guess. It's pretty hard to find a strong image with no creases, and minimal wear, so I overpaid a bit. This one is better than my old Jackson, even if I don't think it's a 5. It will be liberated soon.

Not pretty, but happy to have an uncut portion of a T set.

I've got 20 of these in hand now. I'd love to chat and try to piece the full sheet together, I'm most of the way there. Choyinski slots in right side next to Lavigne, below Coburn. Do you have the others?

I did not - I was away on vacation a couple weeks ago when the others sold, and got outbid on them all.

I totally missed where the Choyinski, Coburn and Jas. J. Corbett panels got listed and sold. I should have 5 more to show when I get home.

I believe McAuliffe and Ryan are unseen still, if they still exist.

Randall & Belasco, Corbett, Kid McCoy, Young Erne, Jem Carney, Pal Moore, Willie Beecher, Choynski, Coburn and Dempsey proof sheets all sold on May 5.

Unfortunately I was in Europe and the only bid that held up for me was Choynski.

Here's some of them one of the winners was kind enough to flip my away and reunite most of the sheet. Arrived today, very fun to see still. I paid closer to what Dempsey was bid up to on eBay when the listing got yanked than I did the price through Weiss. I snoozed on that completely

Does it look like these would make up a large print sheet if put together? It seems like an odd way to print a set. Maybe they were preproduction samples?

I’m working on another mock-up connecting the panels now that I have more in hand. It’s definitely a 5 panel by 5 panel layout. A much bigger sheet than I expected from an ATC set.

The Jordan, Beecher and presence of Donovan and Corbett indicate it’s surely a pre-production piece for Brett, not quite the final rendition.

There's several photos of Corbett in this series of Cabinets, all of them pretty good quality photos.

Saw the 1/1 pretty cheap so I took it. I guess I'm obligated to try and do the rainbow. John L. Sullivan also has a card in this set.

Instead of boxers, I got some wrestlers for once. Acton is a little thin.... Lot came with a second Acton that is missing the back, but not a album cutout. Muldoon is the cool one for me.

1951 Topps Ringside Boxing with Puzzle Back? Never heard of these, apparently hand cut from an advertisement piece similar to this wax box image I found on the internet. With Fathers Day eBay gift card in hand asking price was $99 OBO I offered $75 and picked up for $85 plus $6 shipping and $6.37 sales tax. Others are out there but still a pretty unique card.

Nice pickup. I haven't seen those before either. I wonder if anyone knows what the item is that this was cut from? Obviously it looks like part of the box top pictured. Maybe it's from a store display.

It is cut from one of the ad panels for the set. Adam has one with different cards. He has posted it before.https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=301657 Post #33

I’m not sure why they’d call a cut from a salesman sample a puzzle back. SGC doesn’t know what it is but authenticates it. Really awesome piece and a good price, I think. I’d have hit the BIN too if I saw it.

None of the TPGs actually knew what they were, so they made it up. Not a unique thing for them. PSA's Latin American sets are a blizzard of gibberish and made-up names.

And as long as we're at it and I can trot this out again:

That's my version of a Marciano RC...

Cards 109 and 110 in my T225-1 set. The lack of Jack Johnson makes this one a very affordable set, with a strong checklist of great boxers nobody cares about, as opposed to the T225-2's that have a horrific checklist of terrible boxers nobody cares about.

Found the Canelo's at a show today in a nickel box, so I grabbed all 3. Checking eBay sold items they are $45-$100 cards apparently. Not sure if I'll keep one or not, that's too much value for a base modern card in my eyes.

The T218 Hoppe is a miscut 30 back showing he is below William Heins, a bowler. This is a significant miscut find to identifying series 3 distribution and clarifying some of the comments in the ledger pages that survive - evidently the Billiards Players were not their own series as a couple of the pages imply was possible. I was surprised how much this one ended up going for, thought I'd snag it for little. If someone else is collecting these miscuts please show them for sheet reconstruction research

Another "D" error Trubenbach, since it was a cheapie.

And cards 111-120 in my T225-1 master set run.

The Canelo cards have really gone up. I just sent off one of the certified signed RCs for slabbing; that card can go for $2K.

There are a # of modern cards like that lately. I also sent this one for grading, because it can go well into four figures slabbed:

Hopefully, they will be back before a card show I am setting up at in August.

Come visit; there will be lots of esoteric boxing cards and memorabilia at my table.

Oh, and a modest p/u:

Auto's and tough inserts make sense as being valuable, though I don't know if the explosion will hold. Base commons, this seems excessive. I thought it was like $5-$10 and that's why I didn't have a copy yet.

I've never been to the Burbank show, but this one had a dealer I don't know with actual boxing for the first time I've ever seen. Bunch of Jack Johnsons, a set of Cohen's & Weenen's, Joe Louis stuff, a full display case. All CSG slabbed, not really what I look for but I can probably count on my fingers the boxing cards I've encountered in hand and are not in my collection. Cool to see some boxing amidst the post-war vintage and modern baseball/football/basketball. Came away with tons of junk wax for fun opening, a couple Heritage hobby boxes at $40 a pop, some post-war vintage including a Hornung rookie, an Obak, 2 Zeenuts, and a big box of 60's baseball I need to sort through one evening. Still hoping to find a box of Mecca cards one day....

Nothing as cool as a Sullivan CDV!

I hit the $500 BIN on these, not sure if I overpaid a little or not. I believe Gotch carries a bit of a premium but I don't follow wrestling. All are Pet backs, without the purple stamp. Fitzsimmons I already had, but with a Kopec back. Up to 16 different fronts, 17 total after about a year of trying to build this set. I expect progress to continue at a much slower pace.

No, but I noticed the Kopec T229 Jack Johnson SGC 3 went for 12K.

Don't know how that compares to past sales, but it's one I'm relatively confident I've never owned and sold off in the past, so I don't have to feel bad for seeing it go that high.

Weird scolling through all the programs offered. Seeing some very common CGC graded programs selling for more then a lot of the rarer programs.

Results all over the place.

Strong prices on some of the posters.

I was wondering what that Johnson went for. Nice looking 3, that card is probably permanently out of my price range now.

No worries, Greg, it's not like you will find one to buy anyway.

I kid you, my friend. In the last two months three N223 Kinney Hold To Light Sullivans have reached market, after a very long drought, so anything could pop up.

Ain't that the truth! I haven't exactly followed this card specifically, but I don't believe I've seen another one besides that cool misprint copy you have (or had). My photo archive doesn't have an example picture of a correctly printed Johnson at all until this one.

I've gotten to the point where most of the cards on my c. 1910 boxing want list are just exciting to even see appear, whether I get them or not. Sometimes it's just fun to see things we didn't even know existed crop up, or cards that haven't been seen for years somehow come up in batches. This is what has been so fun with boxing, it's not usually a contest of how big my wallet is as it is an effort of research, digging and patience.

I have no idea how many T224/T229 cards there really are out there, but I'm starting to think it's not more than a couple dozen of each maybe.

Fun pick up. 1915 RPPC Johnson v Willard in Cuba, really like the narrative on the back.

"Beginning of the 2nd round Johnson v Willard Havana Cuba 4/15/15 won by Willard in 26th round"

That would be a generous estimate. I am also thinking that some cards are less available because they were destroyed at a greater rate. Al Jurgela (hi Al) and I were kicking around the seeming SPs of the T226 set--basically, the black fighters--and one thought was that people threw them out because the set was a Louisiana issue and cards of black folks might not have been well-regarded. Well, I am thinking that after Johnson beat Jeffries a 1911 issue of Johnson might have been unwanted by some proportion of the collecting base. No proof of that, just an idea.

Some fun stuff with my recent CSG subs:

Pretty jazzed about the tens. That Ali is a 1/1 card. No idea what that means since I can't find any sale comps from the set. I haven't see a prismatic gold for sale in some time and I've been looking.

I like the Golovkin best, the Mini-Framed relics/auto's look great. Been a couple years since they had a boxer in A&G.

Oh I wish I was in Dixie. Thank you to a board member and pal for these, 8 Dixie Queen's to help my little set along. I'm 21 deep now. New cards make me smile fierce as a 40 pounder. Hooray! Hooray!

Look away though, the condition is not pretty. I think the Welsh might be my first SGC boxing card that I think is under graded, some toning on the back on the small handwriting on the top left. I'll find out if there's hidden damage when I bust the slab. Dixie Queens are pretty tough, looking for a particular one can be really tough. I imagine the survival rate of these was lower than most sets, with the very thin stock and the recycled images at a lower quality than their parent set. I'm 1 card away from a total Master T220 set, so these are a perfect complement as I'm about out of T220 to look for.

Not as cool as the Dixie's, but I got another T218 miscut for my collection. Cost a little too much, but it shows the card adjacent is another Johnson Green. This doesn't help much, as Johnson being on his own sheet would be printed this way, but so too if he was substituted over other cards in a sheet similar to the T220 Silver array. I suspect Johnson was printed on a sheet all on his own, for at least series 1 production. He is clearly a super print and his back pattern strongly suggests he did not replace HJ Handy as has often been said.

Hey Alex! The last card I need for a full T220 master is the silver border James J. Corbett. If you ever wake up and decide that you really just can’t stand to look at your copy even one more time, I’d be happy to take him off your hands.

These are the 29 Dixie Queens I need to find a copy of eventually:
James J. Barry, Tommy Burns, Jem Carney, Joe Choynski, Jack Dempsey, George Dixon, Mike Donovan in the 60’s, Billy Edwards, Young Erne, Bob Fitzsimmons, Charlie Goldman, Jack Goodman, Young Griffo, Marvin Hart, Peter Jackson, Ben Jordan, Frank Klaus, Jem Mace, Frankie Madden, Jack McAuliffe, Terry McGovern, Charlie Mitchell, Jack O’Brien, John L. Sullivan, Joe Wagner, Tug Wilson, FB Heenan and Sayers, FB Mace and King, FB Randall/Belasco

Nothing as cool as a Marciano card, but Marvin Hart was a Heavyweight Champion too (sort of). Cards 121, 122 and 123 in my set, 2 away from the 50% marker. Getting close to the time to put more serious effort into it soon.

The lack of a Johnson makes this set pretty cheap, but the roster is star-studded. Jack Sullivan was one of many claimants to the American middleweight title and fought several prominent heavyweights that were much larger. Papke held the world title for a time. Hart was proclaimed the world champion after Jeffries retired. Most of the guys in the set are in this tier, stars in their day, obscure and cheap now.

I received my Joe Louis United Tobacco back from PSA. Not a high grade but I'm ok with that. I sent in a Sonny Liston Swedish Rekord RC last week, so I'll probably have that back in about 3 months or so. I don't really collect boxing, but I have acquired a few over the years. Maybe it's because I don't engage much with boxing cards, but I've always thought they are pretty affordable.

Nice card, but I see PSA still getting the date wrong on that issue.
