Default Morgan Stationary PC Help- Info needed

Posted By: Rhett Yeakley

I recently purchased a Morgan Stationary "Red Belt" postcard entitled "After a High One" and upon recieving it today I am suspecting that it is not legitimate. The seller was also selling one that was postally used (which is probably why I didn't supect the one I purchased would have any problems). I am wondering if anybody has any information about this particular set being reprinted or not. I don't think there was any mal-intent on the sellers part he might just be unaware the item is bogus (assuming it is). I have owned these in the past (but don't still have any on hand) and this one just doesn't feel right and is missing the Morgan copyright on back. I have scanned front and back and blown up a portion of the front to show the printing. Any help would be appreciated.

I am not aware of Morgan Stationary being reprinted. Your card looks good to me. I've handled maybe 5-10 over the years. I only have one now (It's All in the Game "Noise")The lack of a copyright line may not be determinative of genuiness. Mine, graded by SGC, has no copyright line.

Rhett,

I noticed the color of the print on your example is a yellow print, whereas, Steve's example is black. Did they print the backs in different color inks?

Patrick

Patrick:

The printing on mine is a burnt sienna color. Maybe Rhett's scan is just too light to show the color accurately or as you question maybe the print colors are different.

If Rob still reads here maybe he can weigh in. I've traded several to him and he has one of the more extensive pc collections in the hobby.

I remember that card form Ebay and i was going to offer the guy a best offer price but was worried about the color on "Post Card"..."for address only". I am not saying its a reprint and i have never seen a reprint Red Belt so its just my opinion. Have SGC grade it and if they say its real then it should get a nice grade. These are very scarce with NO writing on them. To tell you the truth, i don't remember ever seeing one with NO writing on it.

Steve got his Red Belt from me...hope you can get more and try and complete the set.

PC778 Postcards come in either Gold, Brownish, or a Purplish color print on back. Some have the Morgan Stationery Co. line on back and some dont.

As I said I have handled these and the past and the back isn't what was really worrying me. The front just doesn't "feel" right. Maybe I am just forgetting things in my old age (joke) but the texture of the front just doesn't look like what I remember the ones I owned in the past looking like (no deep colors-all kinda flat and muted with a grainy appearance)

Rhett, I have the same card ("After a High One") in SGC 60 and it looks very much like yours on the front. My back is printed in brown and has a publisher line. I think yours looks good. Sorry don't have a scan today - but could maybe send one to you later. Mike

Well, I guess I am willing to concede I am probably wrong, which isn't a bad thing. One of the things that really threw me is just how nice the condition on this card is.
