1951 mantle with "o" a the end of the name
Hello, I noticed on the 1951 bowman mantle that I own a the end of his name a small "o" appears and was wondering why this occured. scan attached. any help would greatly be appreciated. thanks

Yup, print flaw caused by dirty printing plate, if Im not mistaken.
PS what made that card get an "A" grade. I can see the tape residue in the corners, but is the back messed up too? Last edited by fkw; 12-21-2009 at 01:54 PM.

Close. Not actually a dirty plate, but a bit of debris on the rubber offset blanket that transfers the ink from the plate to the paper.
This reminds me that I've got to ask about the proper technical name for this print defect. The shop I used to work for way back called them hickeys. Steve

Frank, the back of the Mantle is flawless, so I am guessing it got a "A" grade is due to the tape. also thanks again for the info from everyone.
