Default Hello! Newbie here.

Just wanted to say hi and that I'm glad I came across this forum. Like many here, I suspect, I collected extensively as a kid in the early 90's and even set up displays at gun shows where my dad was an exhibitor. But I lost interest (not in baseball, just cards) after the strike and as high school and college shifted me towards other distractions.

Then something happened right before opening week 2018 - my first son was born and I was watching A LOT of baseball at home with him. This combined with all of the Ohtani hysteria, I experienced a huge rush of nostalgia. I went down to a local card shop (I was surprised they still existed) and put my hands on my first cards in over 20 years.

A year later, I have had a blast building up collections of both vintage and new. I found myself partial to the modern Heritage and Chrome offerings and built 2018 sets with some good hits. I also put together very respectable Cubs and Angels collections of past and present players. The Cubs are pretty fun, in particular, since I can extend my search way back even to the late 1800s to find some really neat cards. Pre-WWII star Cubs players is where I am shifting my focus to lately.

Welcome! Many of us were avid collectors as kids, then fell off only to return after college/marriage/kids out of a sense of nostalgia and the "collecting gene."

I'm sure you will be collecting T206 Cubs in no time.

Ah yes! Already have Mordecai Brown and Ed Reulbach in T206. One cool thing I found about collecting now versus when I was a kid - money is not as much of a limiting factor as it once was!

Welcome back to collecting and congrats on your growing family! I got back into collecting before my first born, but have two sons now and they're wild about baseball cards. We bust open a box of Topps each opening day, go to shows, trade, etc. It's a blast.
Since I got back in, I've gone full-in on T206 and pre-war cards. They're such a blast.

Ha! You better believe it. Although I limit my card collecting to baseball exclusively, I bleed black and gold. I am born and raised in CR and am an Iowa alum. I moved to SoCal in 2004, but I am very active in the alumni network here and make it back when I can for games.
