Default 1887 N28 Allen & Ginter Cap Anson stolen at National Convention

Posted By: Tom Witek/Tom Witek Enterprises

To those collectors and dealers who I met at the National Convention last week I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed conversing with you regarding cards or baseball in general and that it was a pleasure finally getting the chance to meet with many of you in person. On a much more somber note I had an 1887 N28 Allen & Ginter SGC 40 VG graded card stolen from my showcase at last weeks National Convention in Chicago. I was set-up with Wayne Varner at the Shoebox Cards table. I have spoken with a few people up to this point but unfortunately have yet to turn up anything. I thought I'd post this message along with a scan of the card since it has some very distinguishing characteristics just in case someone comes across it whether it eventually winds up in an auction (eBay or elsewhere) or in the case of a dealer that the card is offered to them for sale. I assume that by this time the card has been cracked out of its original holder and either re-submitted to another grading company or has been sold already. I know these requests rarely yield much information but I thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks for your help in advance.

Sincerely,

Tom Witek

Sorry to hear about the loss. Even if the card gets cracked out of the slab, it seems to have enough unique characteristics to be easily identified. Looks like SGC was feeling generous when this graded this one. That's a rough looking 40.

Jay

My place is full of valuable, worthless junk.

I would call it a solid VG, as it looks consistent for the grade.

I'll keep my eyes peeled, as I'm looking for one of these. If it does turn up, I would be interested in purchasing it.

DO you have any memory of anyone asking you to see it ?....any recalled commotion that drew your attention away ?......good luck ,I lost maybe the nicest example e90-1 Duffy and know how you feel.

good that you posted the scan there are tell tale signs if this comes up.
