Default FS:T205 Ty Cobb, Front is NM/MT, Back From PSA! Good 2 ! Offers?

Posted By: Lance

This is the nicest T205 Cobb I have had in my hands. The scans do not justly represent the blazing colors on the front. 4 crisp corners and brilliant resolution! There is a small spot of paper loss or paper stuck to the lower right corner on the back. The entire border is there, but it looks faint. Guaranteed to be authentic. The card is slightly OVER-sized. Judge for yourself, ask me any questions you have, and make me an offer.

For the sake of clarification are you guaranteeing it will get at least an AUT grade or

are you saying you guarantee it will grade numerically?

Great looking card btw and good luck with it....

I see no reason why it wouldn't grade numerically.

I am interested in this card. Any chance of getting it graded first? If it receives a numerical grade I will buy it. I can't take the chance of it receiving an authentic grade for that price.

I'll give it a 3, now you can buy it...

Great card, by the way - I think it's one of Cobb's nicest poses - sort of makes him look like a nice guy...

Take Care,
Geno

Josh,
I don't see it getting anything higher than a 2-3, but the front will still be an 8. I will let it go thru the weekend and if it doesn't sell, I'll submit it.

Geno,
He wasn't a "Good Guy"???? LOL.

I would definitely send that one to PSA not SGC. PSA is much kinder on back damage. Could get a 4 or 5.

Jim - from my observation while, PSA is kinder to back PL, they are more harsh on glue residue, so I'm not sure PSA would give a higher grade on this one.

Jim,
I think this card is the exception to the rule. I don't care if receives a 1, as long as I can state it hasn't been trimmed. When that happens, the front will do the rest.

I find it humerous that someone actually thinks this card would grade a four. My guess is PSA will slab it as a 2.5 but my advice is to grade it at the national and you may have a shot at a 3.

I didn't think I could be wrong, but turns out I was. It's coming home in an A holder. Now taking offers. Yet another disppointment...

Thanks for all the advice, guys. I just received the card back and after seeing it in the holder, I disagree with the grade even more. I spoke with SGC and they said it was trimmed. It was actually a relief because as nice as this is, I was worried about color. I believe PSA will get a shot at this one. Should I remove the card or submit it holdered? Here it is under 1200 dpi.

I do not deal with t205 cards much, but it doesn't look trimmed to me. Experts on the set may feel otherwise. As for cracking it out, I think it depends on if you want it to remain in the holder or not. I would say crack it out and send it in. I feel you would get a more unbiased look at it that way.

I would say crack it out, I doubt PSA will give it any grade than AUTHENTIC if it's in a SGC holder.

But it looks good to me.

Yeah, of course crack it out -- what do you have to lose? An "A" grade? And fwiw, it doesn't look trimmed from that pic but who knows.

Next to uneven borders from bad trimming, uneven corner (elongated triangles) wear is a classic give-away of trimming (though not 100% reliable). The fact that it is still oversized wouldn't reassure me at all...only increases my doubt. Still, it's a fantastic card...and I would love to have it.

Mac

Wait, so the card is no longer trimmed?

As a person who only collects T205's, there is something just not right about this entire situation. This is exactly why all of my cards are in SGC slabs. Good looking card though.

Matt,
I have never believed the card to be trimmed to begin with. It's looks huge in the holder shown above. I also know this is probably not going to be where it sells, being a pro-SGC climate. But, it is an uncontested knock-out of a card and it is available.

I actually do understand the grade of '2'. Paper loss on the back makes that an immediate grade.

Regards,
Scott

It's hard to believe this wasn't a 2.5, going by their standards. I think think this one quilifies for the 99th percentile of all 2's.

Just my 2 cents, but I don't think the technical grade has much bearing on the value of this card - in an open auction I don't think the price realized would differ whether it was an "A", a 2 or a 2.5. The value here has everything to do with the attractive front.

I figured the card to be a 2 with the paper loss. Good luck.
