Default the irony of it.....C.A Briggs

Posted By: leon

Here is a neat little advertising piece that could be a companion for a few series of cards we collect...The very rare ca.1932-33 CA Briggs Ruth card that David M so easily beat me out of recently and our beloved E97's. I would think this matchcover is closer to the Ruth card than the earlier E97's, time-frame wise. The irony of it is that it has an ad for Hospital Blend cough drops and Boston Wafers. Assuming the matches were used for lighting cigarettes the owner might not have needed the cough drops so much if he/she didn't use the matches to begin with.

You can tell that times are tough. Leon is using a penny instead of a quarter. sad.gif

Nice items!

I am getting the idea that C.A. Briggs made cough drops and not chocolate and that the flip is incorrect.

Briggs was a confectioner and said product was officially categorized as a 'candy cough drop.' I don't know if they were chocolate flavored.
