I did. The provenance seems somewhat plausible, but matching it with Walter Johnson photos from that era would be nice. I'm surprised that the auction house hasn't bothered to close that loop at their end.

We'll see if the bidders buy into it......

I hope it's not from the Barry Halper collection!

Lelands description is inaccurate. They state it's the only one of Johnson's known to exist. A quick Google search kills that.

Actually, Lelands description says its the only known 1911 Senators jersey, not the only known Johnson jersey. I think they are correct about this.

Default Not Walter's

This jersey was never worn by Walter Johnson, and it's surprising that Leland's would try to pass this off as one. It's certainly not from 1911, which had a large seraph "W". This "W" is close to that used in 1907-1909, but not exactly, and the piping doesn't match, either. It's instructive that Leland's couldn't find a photo, and there is no authentication. Is a good story worth 10 grand? Not so far.

Hi Hank,
Thanks for weighing in on this topic. You are always a wealth of knowledge on all things Walter Johnson for obvious reasons.
