Default Epson Watermark Photo Paper Question, Help Please

Hello,

I recently purchased a photo and was wondering about the time period of the watermark on the back. It says, "EPSON PHOTO PAPER"

I darken the contrast so you can see it better...

Original photo without the contrast:

Thank you!

I went to school for photography and, at the time, the only papers available for darkroom printing were Ilford and Kodak brands. I'm 99% sure that Epson Photo Papers have only been used for inkjet printing.

It's easier to comment if you reveal what is on the front. If it's a Babe Ruth photo, it's a reprint because the Epson brand name was coined in 1975. As mentioned, Epson is a digital printing company, and that branding would have to be pretty modern.

If it's a modern image on front, that more research would be necessary to pin point. But, when asked authenticity questions, I like all the info given, not just part and I'm supposed to take a wild guess who might or might not be on front.

As mentioned the name Epson was first coined in 1975, so that's all the info you need. Epson was a brand name of the Seiko corporation, Seiko famous both for watches and computer printers. Epson literally translates to 'Son of Electronic Printer (EP)," with the brand name originally coined for a second generation electronic printer of Seiko's.

That listing of theirs is pretty damning for an auction house. "100% old, original and authentic"??? Wow....

Do you have it in hand yet?

To me looking at the left edge of their scan it looks like two layers. The back scan also isn't showing the corner crease that's obvious in the front view.

I think there's a good chance it's an old photo glued to a piece of modern laser print photo paper.

Hey Steve,

Yes, I have it in hand. It's a reprint. The "bent" corner..is smooth front and back. It's part of the image, in which the "bent" corner is printed on the photo paper.

The issue is being resolved.

Interesting. Epson paper must be thicker than I'd have thought. The look of layering along one edge was convincing.

Good to hear it's being handled.
