Wow that is a piece of history and potentially very lucrative ball for the new owner

Many fewer balls from a Series then than now. Nowadays, they take a ball out of play every time it hits the ground.

If true, it has to be one of the most significant finds of recent years. Does anyone know of any other memorabilia from the 1919 Series - bats, gloves, jerseys, hats, jackets - that has survived to this day???

There are a few balls from the series and jerseys.

Interesting aside...I think most 1920 White Sox home jerseys were actually issued first for the 1919 WS as if you look at photos and check the newspapers the Sox wore white for the first two games on the road and they had the crossed sox patch on the sleeve...which they did not use in season 1919... but did use in season 1920.

I dont think this has ever been touched on before. Attached photos of 1919 WS Game 1 (at Cin, Sox wearing white, note patch) and 1920 Joe Jackson w Yankee Babe Ruth (note patch)

I think a Red Faber 1920 home jersey has been sold...so would actually be a 1919 WS jersey as well

So this would actually be a 1919 World Series jersey of Red Faber as well as his 1920 jersey

Faber didn't play in the 1919 Series. In fact, the last game he played that year was Sept. 15, two full weeks before the Series began.

He was injured - which changed the course of history, because Gleason could've pitched him instead of Williams, after Schalk and Kid realized Williams' pitching was highly suspect.

However, I don't know if Red suited up for the Series and wore that jersey on the bench.

Mark - Yes I know he didnt play and was sick/injured but he was still there suited up on the bench...

IMO a health Faber would not have changed much as he would have started in place of Dickie Kerr who was 2-0 in the series.

Schalk was screaming at Williams for throwing soft pitches, and rumors of a fix were rampant. I think Kid knew he couldn't trust Lefty and wouldn't have had him out there if he'd had Faber or Kerr as an alternative.

But, we'll never know.
