Default T206 Sovereign 150 backs

Posted By: Lee Behrens

For the sake of not hijacking the EPDG thread anymore, which T206s do you have with Sovereign 150 backs. I have a whole 3 in my 500 plus.

Conroy, Ganley,L. Tannenhill.

We may really be uncovering the true scarcity of of the little appreciated backs.

Scot Reader, Did you keep track of backs and series?

Marquard-arms at side

Sovereign 460 series:
Schulte- back view

...but they're exhausting for non-back collectors like me to answer. I'm going to have to catalog the backs (brand, series, factory, overprints, etc.) so that I can just do a simple search each time. I know many of you do this, but I just haven't cataloged the backs yet in my spreadsheet that keeps track of all the fronts I have and the grade of the card.

As with the EPDG, these fronts made it into my 30-card T206 collection because of their backs:

150 Subjects - Shipke
350 Subjects - Merritt
460 Subjects - Tannehill, Washington

Regards,

Richard.

I have 25 - Sovereign 460 cards and they all are from the 460-only Series;
which, as you know, comprises just 48 cards.

So, my question to you....are Sov460 backs just available from this series,
or can they exist with all cards in the 350/460 Series ?

I found a 9th Sov 150 in my pile of cards. Powers.

I found it while looking to see what was on the back of my Schaefer Detroit card, in a different thread (P 150).

I got an extra Powers because I figure he's a bit more difficult than normal cards. He died while the cards were out, I figure it is likely some kids threw his card away after he died. I recall as a kid in my early collecting days those first few years, I'd toss the old guys who had retired over to one side... they weren't as interesting to me after they were out of baseball.

So I figure maybe the printers quit printing them for the Tobacco Trust, or maybe kids tossed them, but it seems there are fewer Powers cards out there than there are of some of his contemporaries.

Default T206 Sovereign 150 backs

Hi Ted,
Sov460 backs are possible only on the 460-only subjects and the six 350/460 superprints. The six superprints are Chance Yellow, Chase Blue, Chase Dark, Cobb Red, Evers Yellow and Matty Dark. Sov460 backs are NOT possible on the 350/460 regular prints. The same goes for Sweet Cap 460/30--this back is only possible on the 460-only subjects and the six 350/460 superprints. I wrote about this in Inside T206.

Pretty steep price but I don't think I have ever seen a Sovereign back on a Kling card:
