Default 1933 Butter Cream Lefty Grove

My best pickup of 2012 was probably the 1933 Butter Cream Lefty Grove card with a September 1 back. I had been looking for one for more than 15 years. I had missed out on 2 in the past few years, but was able to snag this one a few months ago. Merry Christmas everyone!

Despite being focused on completing my T206 set, my pick up of the year is Orval Overall Plow Boy with the coupon back shown below before it was graded.

Ted Zanidakis sold Mr. Vaughn to us in Baltimore this past summer. It was the last card needed to complete our set.

Thank you Ted:

My best pickup is definitely the card it took me 10+ years to find, Alcott/Mansfield. The other two were cards I had to pass on in the past due to cost, but finally got this year

2011 I had had the pickup of my life with adding the D381 Walter Johnson. Then this year I equaled that and was finally able to scratch this one off the list ..... (been a good last 2 years for me!)

By far, my best pick-ups ever, born October 3rd, Grace & William. After some initial post-delivery issues, all of us are doing fantastic.

And one of my favorite cardboard pick-ups of 2012 that is most kid-like.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Default 2012 - A very good year

Great pick ups everyone!

While I don't collect a lot of cards, I did have a number of very nice pick ups this year, but my favorite card pick up is the 1934 Goudey autographed by KiKi Cuyler.
It is not only my favorite because of what it is, but also because of how I got it.
I won't bore those of you who read the story on the autograph forum before, but here's a link to the story if you're interested in reading it.

I hope everyone has a Great Christmas, New Year, Chanukah, and all the holidays celebrated this time of year. I wish you all a very healthy and prosperous 2013.

Best,
Mark

Default No better dealer than Mr. MaCrae

Great cards (and kids) everyone...my best pickup was the 1924 Zeenut Bernard of Vernon. I had been down to three cards to complete the 1924 set for about six years. Early in the year I was able to pick up a E.Baldwin from Mark M. (a PCL collector's best friend), and then come summertime he had the Paul Waner (a card I thought might forever elude me).

You would think the Waner would be my favorite pickup (it is a cool, pre-major league HOF'er and fairly tough card to come by)...then, why the Bernard is the favorite, you ask? Because when informed that I only needed one card to complete the 1924 set, he threw the Bernard in for free.

Thanks Mark for making my second job (vintage bb card collecting) that much easier.

Brian

Great stuff, all! I knew this would be a thread with major eye candy content.

The T3 Cobb was it for me this year (thanks, Craig), but the E93 Matty was pretty cool, too.

Congrats, those are two beautiful babies. Hopefully, you wouldn't trade them for my high grade Delahanty, either... even with the higher overhead.

I have wanted a red cobby with nice color, centering and focus for a long time. The oversized borders were icing on the cake for me.

Beautiful cards, guys!

I love the 1929-30 Rogers Peet set, and it's been a bear to assemble what I have so far - so this was a big addition for my set and collection, as a whole...
