man - I wanted this one. I was the underbidder.

Is anyone here "veangregg" on eBay?

What a cool looking postcard.

I get outsniped by that guy all the time...including last night. I don't think he's a member here as he purchased some pinbacks from me on ebay in the past, but I can't remember his name.

I was watching that card also....Lew has put some outstanding postcards up in the last couple of weeks.

Joe,

He has one of the best collections in the hobby, especially for anything PCL-related or anything regarding baseball in the upper left corner of the U.S. (or lower left corner of Canada). For example, if there's a great Seattle baseball item you have a snipe on, expect to be outbid by him. It's happened many times to me on items I thought I had decent snipes on.

He definitely will outbid you on a PCL item he wants, but he also outbids me on almost ANY early 1900s minor league item.

Now I remember. This is the second time he got me.

I posted once before - about a RPPC that I thought one guy looked like Matty....

He must have a pretty nice collection (going by what you are saying).

Wish he was an N54er that could share some of those images. Would be cool to see.

There are lots of ebayers that would make great contributers to Net54. Some I have asked to join in, but so far no takers. I recently asked gtp.ro to join in, but he is very modest.

Guys, I won't "out" the collector by name who I am pretty sure is veangregg. A good friend of mine knows him and he does truly have a great collection of early baseball, especially PCL. If you are ever at Safeco field, look around the walkways, and you will see the mementos I am talking about. Awesome stuff.
My buddy says he is a real nice guy too !

Thanks

gtp.ro would be a good addition; just based on his bidding patterns he knows quite a bit.

Dan Bretta's right, if VeanGregg sees something PCL he wants, your chances of winning are pretty much through. I have a pretty good idea who he is and he KNOWS his stuff. If you collect Pre-War PCL, NorthWest League, and other popular Pre-War Minor League items he will quickly become the bane of your bidding existence. I've even been shut down by him on some 19th century stuff as well. He seems to bid mostly on Memorabilia, but does go after cards too. He also does sweeps most of the ebay categories, so there are few things he tends to miss. If he sees something he really likes he will bid big to get it. The last thing he won that I remember was a 1910 era NWL Program featuring Dan Dugdale (of N172 fame). It was a pretty nice program and it closed well over the $1000 mark.

I sold one or two New England League cabinets to him a couple of years ago. He's a real nice guy and I agree that he could bring a lot to the board. He collects postcards and minor league baseball stuff if I recall correctly.

Thanks Joe for the pics. So tell me, as I know near nothing about postcards or what makes one desirable over another.......what was especially cool or interesting about the 09', that the 06's don't have?
Anything on this subject you could tell me would increase my knowledge 1000 fold

Regards
Daniel

I can say the White Sox one (09) was a Real Photo Postcard (RPPC) - the 06 one is a printed postcard.

A RPPC is so much nicer than a printed one. It is an actual photograph developed on postcard paper.

Beyond being much nicer, I have to assume that RPPCs were not produced in anywhere near the same quantity as a printed postcards. Printing press runs are made to do large quantities.

So when you have a cool looking team postcard that is a RPPC - you've hit the jackpot IMO.

What makes a card 'cool looking' is completely subjective - and I will say on some occasions - some pretty cool postcards only come in the 'printed postcard' version (at least as far as I know). Given a choice though - for the same image on a postcard - I will take a RPPC over a printed one any day of the week (and would pay accordingly).

I suggest you go to this awesome site:
http://vintageball.com/

Here is my meager collection -
http://www.internetville.com/images/thumbnails.php?album=33

and if you want to see top notch collections - go to Steve M.s site or JCs site.

Regards,
Joe

Thanks Joe, I figured I'd just never know what RPPC meant....kind of like the letters that come after a Doctor's name - it seems intimidating to even ask!
I can certainly see how real photo cards have greatly improved contrast and detail, I shall be on the look out from now on.
But promise not to bid on anything

Daniel

I feel lucky to have got this when I did. Only two North West League players have been discovered (by the book). Mundorff and Annis are the two from Portland.

Very nice JC! Did you pick up any of the SCP ones? I was hoping that with so many, I might get one that fell through the cracks.

Silly rabbit.
