Default 1969 Milton Bradley Find

A new card shop opened in my town and he had a stack of 1969 Milton Bradley, ungraded. I didn't buy any because I've never seen them before. He had all the star cards: Mays, Clemente, Kaline, Stargell, and Reggie Jackson. Most of his were priced in the $20 range, but the Jackson was significantly more because he said it's a RC. I just perused ebay looking at prices to compare, now that I'm home.

My question is what should I look for condition wise if I was interested in any of them?

First of all make sure they’re from 1969.

I believe they made them for four years

There are no dates on them, just have to know based upon the style and design which year they are

The only way to tell the difference between 1969 and 1972 is to look at the red (not black) numeral 1. If it has a line at the base (a serif) then it's 1972. If there's no line it's 1969

BTW...if he has a 1972 Ken Boyer tell him I'll take it. That's the only one I need to complete that set.

Pretty sure the 1972 Milton Bradley Ken Boyer doesn’t exist. Ken Boyer and Jerry Zimmerman were on checklists for years and were determined not to exist eventually. I just checked TCDB and they have both listed for 1972 Milton Bradley, I will try to get them removed. The only two cards in the 1972 Milton Bradley set that don’t have a red based 1 on the back are the Brewers Team card and the Giants Team card.

Thanks Cliff. That makes a lot of sense. I bought a complete set that the guy discounted because it wasn't complete and was missing the Boyer and Zimmerman. He had no idea why, and neither did I until now

I'm glad to see there is still interest in these cards. I just recently bought a 1969 game that had all the cards still in their sheets with only one or two cards separated down one perforated side. Next to finding an unopened game, I don't think I could have done better with respect to finding a complete set of unseparated cards. Certainly unexpected since the top of the box had some wear to it. Just a pleasant surprise. I'll add pics when I can dig it out of my closet again.

I find sets like these interesting. Other than the obvious fact that they have player pictures ( no team logo) how are these different than Stratomatic, APBA or Cadeco?

I'm not being critical. I collect the MB cards, have a Cadeco game and was totally into APBA for years. But the values of those is almost non existent to Milton Bradley.

Pictures vs. no pictures at a guess.
