My two bids were small but one I thought I might win...that Lummis peanut butter phillie is one of the rarest of all phillies issues but over $1000!(even before the juice)...speaking of overpriced...t-205 SGC 50 Hoblitzell no stats for over $10000!! Granted, rarest card in set, but one or two of these come up every year....

Have people been generally satisfied with how they rate ungraded cards?

Bryan,

The e95 cobb went for 390. I was actually going to bid on it about a minute before the lot closed (I have no idea if the high bidder had a higher ceiling bid or not so I may not have won anyway) but my internet connection decided to get real slow (despite having cable) and by the time my bid was placed the lot had closed. I cant tell you how frustrating it was watching the little microsoft flag waving on my screen while Im counting seconds in my head.

Josh--Why would you wait until 1 minute before the end of the half hour period to bid? These auctions are not like ebay auctions; a bid extends the bidding on the lot by 30 minutes. Better to get your bids in, hash it out, and get a winner at a decent hour.

Jay,

You are right - and I really wasnt thinking about the rules at the time (its the first Mastro auction Ive bid in). The real problem was that I was responding to numerous emails with a friend concerning that lot and a few others and I simply lost track of time. Completely bad execution on my part.

Josh

Bryan,

Just out of curiousity (and to make myself feel worse) did you have a higher bid on that card?

Regardless, congrats on the card - I think its in very nice condition for the grade.

Josh

Let him down easy, Bryan.

Tell him your "max bid" was $5,000

auction ended. So while i was planning to wait till the last 4 minutes before the half-an-hour to bid, I changed my plans to 7 minutes. Then someone stuck a bid in at 15 minutes; sometimes, you have to be aggressive.

BTW, the Hoy lists for 5.6 in Nearmint.

Did anyone on the board win the McPhee? That was really WEIRD--6.8K for 4 days! And NO bids on closing day at all

BTW, Gary Engel (Prestigecollectibles) has TICKING clocks on his auction pages; you don't have to keep refreshing till your finger wears out. But he only has Japanese cards...and a Russian, and an occasional American

(Jackie was there for a tour of Japan in '56, but this card has "Chico Borbon" on it! )

Funds are a little short right now, otherwise I might have tried to nab it as well. I think you got a good price! Congratulations.

but that was my ceiling bid. I didn't want to go any higher and never had the intentions of winning it for that. I guess I got lucky that your computer was slow that day. Sorry Hal, I can not tell a lie Not about cards anyway

Bryan,

That's ok - with the money Im saving by not winning anything in the mastro auction I am buying a very nice (sgc 60) M101-4/5 Grover Alexander and Ive got some money to spend on ebay to boot.

closer to the half-hour, I kept thinking, "you're going to pull a fast one on me," but--the fast one never came! YAHOO!

Cobb with a far-away look in his eyes and red lipstick--oh well, I guess I'm just not with it...

Cobb should look mean, and haughty--like his Cracker Jack or his T227--neither of which I have...damn.

Hey, Robert Edwards is coming up--and I will have..nada.

come on Julie, the e95 cobb is a lot better than the e93/98 (with his glove in the air) where you cant even tell its him. I do agree with you though that the t227 is a great card - my personal favorite - though I dont have one either.
