I thought we might try to arrange a chat session this Friday at 10:00. (I thought people might be looking to keep busy during the Mastro auction). Do people feel we need a chat topic?
To enter the chat room, click on "chat" near the top right of the index page. You will then be asked to type in a guest name (no other info required) and within seconds you should be in.

I think we can use the Mastro Auction as the topic, as well as the SGC Vs. PSA discussion.

BTW, I think having a moderator in the board/Chat is a good thing.

I've never participated in non-ebay auctions and would like to know how everyone feels about these - I know lots of you have strong opinions that might be voiced more easily in a more temporary "chat-room" environment. Here's one to think about - what do you think Festberg grades this card? I think you'll be amazed.

Chat tomorrow. In the chatroom you are only able to see comments while you are in the chatroom---there is no archival process.

I cheated, I went and looked in the catalog ... As long I'm getting this all off my chest, I also voted twice in the votelet.

Scott, If you are looking other auctions, MastroNet is not a bad place to start. I think they are conservative graders (perhaps I've opened the floodgates with those words)and have good service-- and obviously offer many unique items. I'm sure other posters can recommend other auctions they feel worthy ... This post shouldn't be interpreted as a comment on David Festberg's auctions, as I've never bought from him before.

After going back and reading his auction rules, etc.,more thoroughly, I think he allows the consignors to put in all the descriptions, so grading would be very subjective, and not by the auction house. Maybe I'm wrong? Anyway, I bid on one of the lots and they invited me to call in with questions about another one.

Hey Jay,
Of any known grading company I only know of the "PRO" folks that have some wild a** ideas. I think they have a super duper hotter than sh** up your bu** mint 120 grade....or something like that.....If I am not mistaking one of the companies also has Pristine....think it might even be SGC 100.....best regards....

I think one of the new grading companies (possibly SCD's) has a grade of 11, and will grade cards straight out of the pack, and label them as such ("untouched")---believe it or not.

I mean, how can anyone resist it? If the card has come directly from a wax pack, and has been removed with GLOVED hands (you think I'm making this up?), it is "untouched."

Julie
