Of which do fewer exist: T206 Magie or '33 Lajoie?

The SGC/PSA Pop reports and T206 site auction history give an indication, but wanted to obtain opinions from some of the experts.

Really good question. I've never given it much thought. My guess would be about the same, leaning mroe towards there being more Lajoie cards.

My feeling is that significantly more Magie cards exist. I can't remember the last major auction that did not have at least one Magie card (some having more than one). I just tend to see Magie pretty often, even on Ebay every now and then. Lajoies tend to exceed $10k every time I see them, and I've almost never seen authentic ones on Ebay (I recall one that was overgraded...) And, it seems like Magies pop up more often. There were recently two or three that were found in a T206 album, and were subsequently removed and graded.

Just my feeling/experience,
Marc

Every major auction does seem to have a sample of each. ~36 Magie's have been auctioned since 1996 (referenced T206 site and other auction archives), probably about 20 Lajoie's.

I'm slowly dipping my foot into the pre WWII era, the Encyclopedia of BB provided a good education for the layman. Interesting that Lew notes that the Magie might actually be more scarce than the Wagner or Plank.

I suppose there are others that we don't find. This would increase the number of Magies without really increasing it.
I see that at least 2 other contributors use a saying at the bottom of each post, so I decided to do the same:

"And some walk in darkness, while others walk in light, and we see those in light but those in darkness we don't see"--Bert Brecht, from "Mack the Knife," song from Threepenny Opera

Think modern card market and graded card overhype:

Joe P and David Rudd.
Joe, we're sort of on the left-leaning page...
