Default O/T Wire Photo Question

Posted By: John

I recently purchased a couple wire photos from the mid-40's. They look and feel period and have "International News Photos" stamps on the backs. The tags on these photos are part of the image, not attached separately like I have seen in other instances. Was it common to include these tags in the image as part of the development process? Although the baseball photo's are of local interest only and set me back a mere $8, I would appreciate an answer for future reference when purchasing other wire photos.

Default O/T Wire Photo Question

They are wirephotos, and the captions in the picture are common. The term is used loosely in the hobby, but what you have are genuine wirephotos. They are as old as the date on the caption in the image. Futher, International News Photos changed its name in the 1950s, so the INP stamp on any photo proves it's old.

News photos, old and new, can be found with and without a caption in the image, with and without a physical paper caption tag.
