Default Walter Johnson & Mel Ott Opinions Please

Two more pieces I am interested in, I like both but wanted to get a second opinion:

Perez did a horrible job capturing Ott's likeness. His Johnson is okay.

Hah, I do agree that he did a better on some players and not so well on others. In this case I was referring to the autos not the cards, haha.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Perez had his day.

I don't like cuts, especially when there is no context whatsoever. If you must buy them, I recommend that you get a very clear and large scan and there should be no anomalies that even hint suspicion. At least for the Johnson, you have 'Sincerely' to check on - go do some comparisons. Ott is tougher - I would never touch an Ott cut.

Whoever is making those is doing a really bad job IMO. The least they could do is cut a proper mat window in the top card, get another PS for the back side and sandwich the graph in between the two. The way they just adhere the autographs on top looks very bush league.

I think the Walter Johnson is fine. I'm not so hot on the Ott. The ink just looks too thick and consistent which seems a little odd. PSA obviously thinks they're fine for what it's worth, but I would probably pass on the Ott if offered to me.

I'd likely re-do the piece, as I agree I don't love that they are just pasted over the top. What are your thoughts on the auto itself?

That's why I found the Ott intriguing, I feel like I don't often find nice Mel Otts like that. The Walter Johnson is my primary interest

I do collect the Perez/Steele Golden Moments cards (they look like the T3's) but I am NOT a fan of these postcards.

I too hesitate with the Ott, it's on a weird medium. I know the wife cut up cancelled checks to send to collectors after he passed away.

I'm going to steer clear on the Ott, any other thoughts on the Walter Johnson?

I don't think it's a weird medium. Looks like it's cut from a scorecard, or a dinner program, or something like that, for an event which Ott attended. And it's cheap, porous paper, which explains the line thickness.
I think the Ott is good.

I personally do not like the signatures attached directly to the Perez Steele cards, but it is the way he chooses to sell them and if you want the item bad enough you will buy it and be happy.
I think the Johnson is good . I find the W and J and h and the last n to be good points for authentication for his signature.
I like the Ott, although I think there are better examples available of him. This is a program probably signed hurriedly which is what gives rise to a bit of inconsistency on the M and the O.
Plus if it matters to you , you have the security of knowing that PSA certed them.
Again educate yourself about signatures before you buy them so that you can trust your judgement primarily...not rely on a TPA .

I don't have a thought on the graphs as I haven't studied Johnson and Ott graphs enough to make an educated opinion and I think it would be irresponsible for me or anyone else to venture an opinion on the sigs if they haven't studied them.

I appreciate the honesty and have immeasurable respect for you being honest, and it's one of the primary reasons I ask members on this board. Thank you again!
