Default Need help on a Disney auto.

It's not a sports auto but hoping some people here can help. This auto is on an index card and came in a large trade a while back. Knowing Disney autos are often bad, I haven't added it to my collection until I can get expert opinions on it. So, would anyone salute if I ran it up a flag pole? Thanks.

I am not at home so I can't check my exemplars, but I am almost positive this is secretary signed or not legit at all. It has the artistic draw feel to it, disney himself signed his signature artistically but very rapidly. The person to go to on this if you can't get a good feel for it is Phil Sears, he only does Disney signatures and could likely tell you in a matter of seconds if it is secretary signed. I think he has an option to email him a scan for a small fee and he will review it. I have dealt with him twice before and he is very easy to work with.

ATP - You're right, no good.

Steve - I sent a scan to Phil Sears and he said no good. Thank you for the link.

Thank you both.

No surprise about the authenticity and best to know than to wonder.

Sorry to hear that. Did he elaborate on whether it was a secretary or a malicious forgery? Just curious...

That's too bad, Disney is great autograph to have. I sold two in the last year and kind of wish I had kept one. The more I look at this one, I don't think it is secretarial as it doesn't feel like a Moore or Porter signing (the two Disney artists who regularly signed for him), my guess would be more of a malicious intent. If you really want a Disney and you are patient, every once in awhile you find a signed bank check at a decent price on eBay, but you usually have to act fast because Disney is popular world wide so there is always a lot of demand.

Thanks for the responses. Here's what he said:

"I'm afraid that signature is not consistent with Walt Disney's cursive autograph. Much is wrong with it, but for brevity I'll focus on the "W" and "D" and how wildly oversized those letters are. Even the underline is written incorrectly."

Afraid that statement is pretty much wiggle-proof.

I chimed in a little late , but all advice given above is spot on, Walt Disney is a very tough signature to authenticate, In addition to various artists that signed for him, His signature changed alot over the years and then there are the inevitable forgeries.

PHIL SEARS is hands down the undisputed authority on Disney autographs and most of the time he can even specifically tell you what artist signed the item. Also a nice fellow too. The last Walt Disney I had was a vintage signature and didn't look anything like anything I had seen before , I sent him a scan, he liked it and even estimated a date on the signature and then made a fair offer to buy it and I sold it too him.

I agree with previous post, best bet on Disney is a signed check or signature from an autograph album that you can be absolutely certain was signed in-person.
