Default 1986 Fleer Basketball... Worth Collecting?

Wanting to know the opinions of others here.
The big '86-'87 Fleer Basketball set, with Jordan's RC, Ewing's RC, Barkley's, etc... there are SO many high-graded cards out there, plenty of 8s, 9s, and even 10s, that there's honestly not much of a chase, just a need for deep pockets.
Do you all see this set retaining or growing its value long term? It would be a unicorn in the junk wax era if so.
Thoughts?

The set is significantly down from its peak. It is one of the most collected basketball sets of all time so long term yes but not if you are hoping to move it in 3-5 or even 10 years.

1986 Fleer Basketball is iconic. That's both good and bad.

Nearly everyone in the hobby knows about this set, even if they don't actively collect it. Not surprisingly, it is widely collected.

Since the start of the pandemic, it has also been one of the more price-sensitive sets out there. Meteoric rises and massive drops have made (and lost) people a lot of money.

So, will it retain its value or increase long term? It's very likely. Timing will be a key factor, though.

Pay close attention to the time (and cost) at which you buy, combined with the time/cost at which you sell. Those two things will make the difference between a great financial move or a waste of money.

Of course, if you want to collect the set, go for it! You could definitely do much worse.

And Chuck Conners played for the Celtics and the Dodgers before becoming a cool rifle toting rancher 😊
