Default 1940 Kellogg's Basketball??

Hello all,

I am hoping someone can offer some assistance. I own these two cards and had always thought they were from a 1940 Kellogg's release, but I am not sure now.

Does anyone have any information on these cards?

Thanks for your responses!

Default Kelloggs All-wheat basketball cards

Hi Ghooper33...

It has been awhile since we talked! You may know me from a long time ago as vesper20 or vintagebasketball.

Yes, the 1940 date is definitely incorrect. I can guess where that info came from and there is a lot of misinformation on that site.

However, to be fair, these cards have been a little difficult to investigate over the course of time. I've heard 1940, 1947, 1948, and 1953. However, I believe that 1947 is our best bet, and I'm about 95% confident in that.

The All-wheat cards came in three series. Basketball cards 11,12,13,14,15 showed up in Series 3, while cards 29 and 30 were in Series 2.

Here are the cards in the set.

I need a few upgrades...but we see these cards reasonably often.

I've been to your website before too. I am always glad to offer input if interested.

Best regards, Pat

Pat good to hear from you - I always enjoyed your insight on the vintagebasketball site! My vintage basketball portion of the website needs a lot of work, but I welcome your feedback.

And yes you guess where I came up with the initial 1940 date, plus there were Kellogg's cereal booklets released in 1940 with artwork that looked similar to these cards. However I could never find any of the other cards from this set, so I suspected the 1940 date to be incorrect.
