Default 30th Anniversary of the FF card

The 30th anniversary of the 1989 Fleer Ripken #616 F-Face card is here and it got kicked off with a bang! Beckett contacted me over the summer about contributing a piece for a future magazine. The January 2019 issue of Beckett Baseball is all about the 1980s! Great stuff.

Not a year goes by without something new popping up. Here is a link to the current issue:

Long live the FF!

Can't wait to buy my first Beckett in many many years. Maybe the OP will send me a personalized signed copy. I know he has my address.

Here is one of my favorite Bill Ripken(parody) cards an awesome member got Billy to sign for me.

I ordered a Beckett when I saw this last week and have been looking forward to it arriving. It came today and it didn’t disappoint. That was a really good article and those are some great photos of some of your FF variations and rarities. Some of the things you mentioned about the FF cards sounded very similar to things I’ve come across with the corrections Fleer made to the Randy Johnson Marlboro errors. Variations within variations, different levels of coverage, light to dark, print dots and print defects are features that both of the errors seem to have in common. The FF and the Marlboro card were also both at the bottom of their respective 132 card sheets. The Randy always seemed out of place, as he’s not with the other Expos. I have a question about the circle scribbles and whiteouts if I can send you a PM? Thanks!

I have a fairly large collection of both cards and IMHO the Johnson card is way weirder.

Can't wait to get my Beckett to read the article. Unfortunately USPS seems to like it also. It hit the first sorting facility several days ago and then magically disappeared.

I've received a few emails about the Beckett article. A picture on page 44 incorrectly shows a white proof card with a Circle Scribble label. Here is a "closeup CS1" (with a nice diamond cut)

It only took 12 days but I got my Beckett today.

Great article Jon and congrats on being published in a major magazine, couldn't have happened to a better guy in the F Face community.

Congrats! As another collector who has an affinity for a certain card, I can relate to your passion. Happy 30th to a classic card in the hobby! Hey, it's practically "vintage" now.
